- GA096-025 Ringfort - cashel
Description
In a small woodland plantation surrounded by pastureland. Redington (1916a, 55) described this cashel as being 'levelled to the foundations. The walls were 6 ft. [1.8m] thick and formed of huge stones filled in with rubble'. The interior, which was 'very rough and rocky' was '105 ft. [32m] in diameter' and contained 'two filled-in souterrains (GA096-025001-). The entrance was on the N.E. side'. Classified by McCaffrey (1952, 160, no. 50) as a circular 'Stone fort', the enclosing wall of which was '6' [1.8m] wide and 1'8" [0.54m] high' and 'composed of two faces of blocks set on edge.' On inspection the site was inaccessible due to dense impenetrable thorn and scrub growth. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 8 January 2018

On inspection the site was so densely overgrown with thorn and scrub it was completely inaccessible. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 8 January 2018

- GA096-119 Ringfort - cashel
Description
On a hillock in an area of scrubland and outcropping rock. According to Redington (1916a, 53), only traces of the walls of this cashel remained. There was a souterrain (GA096-119001-) in the interior. On the N slope outside the enclosing wall a number of stones 'artificially set on edge and wedged in with spalls' may have formed part of a 'chevaux de frise'. Classified by McCaffrey as a circular 'Stone fort', 'overall diameter 160' [48.7m]', enclosed by a wall '6' [1.8m] wide and 1'10" [0.33m] high, composed of two face of blocks set on edge. He could not see the souterrain or the 'chevaux de frise' noted by Redington. On inspection this area was so heavily overgrown the site could not be located. - GA096-119001 Souterrain
Description
Within the interior of a cashel (GA096-119----). According to Redington (1916a, 53), there were 'two apparent opes of souterrains' filled with rubble in the cashel. They were not visible when inspected by McCaffrey (1952, 160-61, no. 70). On inspection this area was so densely overgrown the monument could not be located. - GA096-120 Ringfort - cashel
Description
In level recently reclaimed pastureland. Poorly preserved circular cashel (diam. c. 30m) defined by a collapsed drystone wall (Wth 3m; int. H 0.85m), which is obscured by field-clearance rubble particularly from N to NE. Field walls overlie the enclosing element from NW through E to SW. On inspection it was possible to walk around the inner wall-face of the cashel but the outer face was completely obscured by thorn and briar growth. The interior was impenetrable due to overgrowth. (Redington 1916a, 45; O'Flanagan 1927, Vol. 1, 461; McCaffrey 1952, 161, no. 87) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 8 January 2018
- GA096-121 Church
Description
Within a graveyard (GA096-121001-) in Killeeneen village. This rectangular late-medieval church (>13.4m E-W; 8.5m N-S) is poorly preserved. All that survives is the S side-wall, the reconstructed W gable and the return of the N side-wall (L 3.3m); the latter two walls are heavily overgrown with ivy. The only surviving architectural feature is a pointed-arch doorway in the S wall. However, a number cut and dressed stones have been reused to mark the line of N wall of the church and along the pathway at the SW end of the church; the arch of a round-headed window is visible against the S end of the W gable (information from M. Doddy 1988). There are 23 graveslabs in the interior of the church dating from the late 18th century to the late 20th century. A possible baptismal font from the church is embedded in the ground to the S of the doorway. (Redington 1916, 57; McCaffrey 1952, 161, no. 89) Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 28 February 2020
- GA096-121001 Graveyard
Description
Almost centrally located in Killeeneenmore village, this roughly rectangular graveyard (ENE-WSW c. 36m; NNW-SSE c. 25m) is delimited by an ivy-covered stone-built wall. Access is gained through a gateway at SW. Burials date from the late 18th century and are marked by table tombs, headstones and recumbent slabs. The remains of a late-medieval church (GA096-121----) occupy its central area. The graveyard is known as locally as ‘Reilig na BhFilí’ (the poets' graveyard) as the poets Mark and Patsy Callanan (the poets of Carheenadiveane) and Anthony Raftery (Antoine Ó Raifteirí, the Irish bard) are buried here.
