Description
Identified on aerial photograph (Bruff Survey: Map 40, Bruff 128: AP 5/2070). Described by Doody (2008, 138) as an 'oval enclosure, c. 45m x 30m, with possible internal bank'; the morphology of this enclosure indicates that it may be Bronze Age in date (ibid.). Description
In reclaimed pasture, in the townlands of Tankardstown, Goat Island and Ballyvulhane, associated with enclosures (LI040-050002/003-). Not marked on OSi historic maps. Possible site (Site No. 040116) identified during examination of aerial photographs (BGE 2553) taken 03/11/1984 on the Bórd Gáis Éireann Curraleigh Wes-Limerick gas pipeline (Strip Map 5, Site 5/11). Visible on the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 82; AP 5/2108) as linear cropmarks perpendicular to each other. Field system visible on OSi orthophoto taken between 2005-12 and on google Earth orthoimages. Description
In pasture, immediately N of townland boundary with Tankardstown, in SE quadrant of a field system (LI040-050001-), a rectangular enclosure (LI040-050004-) lies 50m to the SE. Identified by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 82 (1); AP 5/2108) as a small circular mound. No surface remains visible on OSi orthophoto taken between 2005-12 and on Google Earth orthoimages. See attached Bruff survey image showing mound and Google Earth orthoimages. Description
In reclaimed wet pasture, 50m W of watercourse, a possible barrow (LI040-155----) lies 130m to the SW. Not marked on OSi historic maps. Identified by the Bruff aerial photographic survey in 1986 (Bruff 84; AP 5/2108) as an earthwork complex. Linear cropmarks visible perpendicular to each other on Digital Globe orthoimage taken between 2011-13 may represent a relic watercourse in S quadrant and a relic post-1700 field boundary in N quadrant. Description
In reclaimed wet pasture, a possible enclosure (LI040-151----) lies 130m to the NE. Not marked on OSi historic maps. Possible site identified during examination of aerial photographs (BGE 1/10,000, 61) taken 03/11/1984 on the Bórd Gáis Éireann gas pipeline. Monument visible as a circular cropmark (diam. c. 6m) in a field with drainage channels and cultivation ridges running E-W on Google Earth orthoimage taken 20/03/2018. Description
Three-arch road bridge, built c. 1820; rebuilt 1922, over Morningstar River. Coursed rubble limestone walls, with parapet walls, with cut copings. Rendered parapet wall to rebuilt section with date plaque having incised lettering. Tooled stone plinths to piers. V-cutwaters to upstream elevations. Round-headed arches flanking recent flat arch with concrete supports. Tooled stone voussoirs to round-headed arches.
