- WI015-061 Megalithic tomb - portal tomb
Description
Situated on a very gentle SW-facing slope with the entrance facing SW, and incorporated into the field boundary. The tomb consists of a gable-shaped backstone (H 1.9m; Wth 1.8m) and a single upright portal (H 2m; Wth 1.3m), forming a small chamber (dims. c. 1.9m x 1.4m). The other portal and the capstone (L 3.5m; Wth 2.3m; max. T 1.6m) have fallen forward. There is no trace of a cairn. (Walshe 1931, 125-6) The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Wicklow' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1997). - WI015-062 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a marked E-facing slope. Circular area (diam. 20m) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 5.5m; H 1.5-1.8m), with slight traces of an external fosse (Wth 2m; D 0.3m) on the W (upslope) perimeter. The entrance (Wth 1.5m) is at the E, with a second recent gap to the S. No internal features. Description
Situated on a marked E-facing slope overlooking a stream. Circular enclosure (diam. c. 25m) hachured on the 1838 OS 6-inch map, but apparently ploughed out 'some years ago', according to local information. Not visible at ground level.
