- LI012-018 Ringfort - rath
Description
In pasture, on slight W facing slope, 50m NW of ringfort (LI012-019----). The 1840 OS 6-inch map depicts a field boundary to the immediate E that respects the curve of the enclosing element and suggests a possible outer ditch. Present remains consist of a raised roughly circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 29m) enclosed by an earthen bank (int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.9m; base Wth. 3.6m). The interior is level. A field boundary running N-S intersects the bank at E. Google Earth orthoimage taken 25/03/2017 shows a well defined enclosing element with traces of an outer ditch clearly visible at N. - LI012-019 Ringfort - cashel
Description
In pasture, on slight S facing slope with good views in all directions , 50m SE of ringfort (LI012-018----). Present remains consist of a raised roughly circular-shaped area (approx. diam. 30m) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.9m; base Wth. 4m) with intervening fosse (base Wth. 2.1m) and a possible outer bank (int. H 0.8m; ext. H 0.55m; base Wth. 4.7m). The fosse has been infilled in many areas while a relic stone wall runs along the line of the outer bank or stone wall. The overgrown interior is level. The site is visible as a heavily overgrown monument on Google Earth orthoimage 19/11/2019. - LI013-002 Enclosure
Description
Situated on flat ground on a garden boundary, c. 30m S of two houses. Indicated on the 1924 OS 6-inch map as a partial sub-rectangular platform (diam. c. 30m N-S by 40m E-W), bisected by a field boundary running N-S. The majority of the enclosure lies E of the boundary and is indicated by hachures as a platform. The remainder, to the W of the boundary, is indicated by a line. The monument has been levelled, however traces of the W arc (12m E-W) of an enclosing bank (int. H 0.3m; ext. H 0.3m; Wth. 0.5m) is evident. Compiled by: Denis Power Date of upload: 5 February 2013
