Description
In undulating grassland overlooking bogland to the W and S. This unenclosed burial ground is defined by an oval-shaped platform (13.6m N-S; 8m E-W). Numerous small set uninscribed slabs (H 0.1-0.2m) within it indicate graves aligned E-W. A number of the grave-markers have fallen and are grassed over. St. Bridget's Well (GA107-) lies c. 115m to the SE. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 6 April 2020
- GA107-190 Ritual site - holy well
Description
On a rise in an otherwise low-lying marshy area. On inspection, this holy well (diam. 2m; D 2m), dedicated to St Bridget, was almost completely dried up. It was enclosed by a much-collapsed circular drystone-built wall and a mature ash tree was growing beside it at S. A stone-lined channel (L 3m) ran SSW from it into a small pool, which in turn fed an E-W flowing stream. No votive offerings were visible but according to local information, the well was formerly used for ‘cures’. A burial ground (GA107-189----) lies c. 120m to the NW.
