Description
On a rise in undulating grassland, formerly part of Dunsandle Demesne. This poorly preserved subcircular rath (diam. c. 23m) is defined by a scarp. Description
Some 50m to the N of Dunsandle Castle (GA097-092001-). Only the N gable, W side-wall and a 1.5m stretch of the return of the E side-wall at the NE corner survive of this rectangular church (15.4m N-S; 7.5m E-W), which is constructed of randomly coursed mortared limestone blocks. There is no visible surface trace of the S gable. An internal dividing wall is evident. The only surviving architectural feature consists of a plain rectangular-headed window set into the apex of the N gable. Description
In level open grassland, formerly part of Dunsandle Demesne. This roughly circular platform (diam. 31m) is defined by a scarp (H 1m). Slight traces of a shallow fosse were noted from E to SW on inspection in April 1981 (SMR file). Apart from some slight humps and hollows the interior was clear. Description
On a gentle rise in grassland, formerly within Dunsandle Demesne. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 60m). The enclosing element is planted with trees. Description
Detached five-bay three-storey country house, built c.1780, now in ruins. Roof missing, rendered chimneystacks with remains of slate hanging, and carved stone eaves cornice. Cut limestone walls, with slightly raised cut-stone quoins, cut-stone string courses between floors, and cut-stone sill course to ground floor. Square-headed window openings with moulded surrounds and cut-stone sills. Ranges of outbuildings to north-west and north-east, having rubble boundary wall entered through slightly advanced cut-stone archway comprising round vehicular opening with dropped keystone, moulded cornice and entablature, topped with pediment detail. Round arch to north-east, inside yard, having cut-stone surround and replacement double-leaf timber door, with cut-stone bellcote above having round opening, curvilinear gable with cut-stone details. Restored two-storey outbuilding also within yard, having pitched artificial slate roof and rubble walls. Set within former demesne.
