• TS081-003 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On the S-facing slope of a ridge in undulating terrain, under grass. The monument appears to have been located on a natural hillock on this ridge. Though the monument has been levelled to some extent, the outline is still visible as a raised (H 1m), circular area (diam. 50m). A field bank, with stone revettment, runs along the top edge of the N quadrant. The interior slopes to E where there is a reduction in the height of the scarp, possibly flatten by tractor access. There is evidence of former feeding trough in the NE quadrant of the interior. • TS081-005 Enclosure
  Description

  On the SW-facing slope in gently rolling pastureland. There is a pond in the field immediately SW of the enclosure. This rectangular enclosure (diam. 35.5m N-S; 45.2m E-W) is defined by an substantial earthen bank with a lot of stone protruding (Wth 2.2m crest, 5.5m base; int. H 0.73m; ext. H 1.18m). The monument slopes gently to the SW with a natural decline. The N side has been quite badly truncated along its external face. The S side is much denuded with a field boundary consisting of scrub growing up against the low remains of the bank. There is no definite entrance feature, though there is a gap in the bank on the E side (Wth 1.7m) with the bank reducing towards the entrance. The interior is undulating, more raised towards the centre on the N side. The field boundary immediately (3m) W of the enclosure deliberately kinks out to avoid it. • TS081-068 Enclosure
  Description

  In a tillage field. Complex identified on aerial photograph (ASIAP(32) 11-20, 3.8.96). The most circular feature, to the NW, is a natural hill surmounted on top by a pillar-stone which has been carved as a memorial to Daniel O'Connell, the leader of Catholic Emancipation. Other features which show up on the aerial photograph, including a large circular cropmark with an ancilary cropmark, lies in fairly flat terrain, sloping very gently to N. • TS082-007001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On the summit of a hill, in pasture. Church (TS082-008----) at foot of hill c. 260m to the SW and an enclosure (TS082-007002-) is located c. 20m to the SE. Circular area (57.8m N-S; 56m E-W) enclosed by quite a high, well-defined earthen and stone bank (Wth 1.4m crest - 9m base; int. H 1.4m; ext. H 2.45m) and U-shaped outer fosse (Wth 1.7m; D 0.53m). There is a lot of stone protruding through the grass-covered bank which has a steep external and internal profile. There is a narrow gap in the bank in the NW quadrant which appears to be caused by cattle. There is a gap in the SE quadrant (Wth c. 0.6m) which is quite narrow, though this could be the result of bank material narrowing the gap. There appears to be a causeway (Wth 6.8m) or a build up of material over the fosse at this point. A stone wall runs N-S 7m E of the ringfort. • TS082-008 Church
  Description

  On the break of a N-facing slope, incorporated in farm buildings. According to Power (1908, 22) this church was a dependency of the Augustinian Abbey at Cahir (TS075-048002-). Rectangular church (dims. 8.2m x 18m; E wall is 1m T; N wall is 0.9m T; S wall is 0.8m T) in a largely disused farmyard. The church has been converted into a barn, the walls lowered (H 3.3m), the W gable rebuilt above 1m of the original wall and the building re-roofed with corrugated iron. There is a high base-batter (H 1.45-2m x W 0.12-0.2m). Some rough boulders used at the foundation which project out beyond the line of the wall and bedrock at the SW angle formed foundation for the W gable. A farm building abutts the church at the W end of the S side. A large doorway has been inserted in the S wall. The original stonework, apart from some cut limestone quoins, has been rendered externally with concrete and a cement floor laid internally. The S wall W of the inserted doorway is also rendered with concrete. There is a watertank at the E end of the S wall, in a concrete casing. The E gable (H c. 6m) has a centrally-placed, pointed, two-light narrow window with a limestone mullion. At the E end of the N wall there is a single-light window whose original head is missing. W of centre in the N wall a rectangular opening has been inserted (H 1.55m; W 1.08m) with crude limestone surrounds. At the W end of the N wall there is an inserted single-light window. A flat-headed single-light window has been inserted roughly central in the W gable, 2.5m above ext. ground level with surrounds of crude limestone blocks. There is an aumbry at the E end of the S wall, 1.2m above int. ground level and 0.37m from the E gable, and a possible blocked opening (H c. 0.9m; Wth 0.85m) 0.76m W of the aumbry and 1.53m above int. floor level.
