  Description

  Visible on aerial photographs (GSIAP: M 471-2), and situated on a level landscape. D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 37.4m E-W; 33.5m N-S) with the straight side (L 27m) at N defined by a grass-covered earth and stone bank (Wth 3.5-5.5m; H 0.2-0.3m). There is no visible fosse but there is an old quarry outside the perimeter at SW, and there is an entrance (Wth 4m) at S. The large enclosure (RO044-069001-) is c. 10m to the W. • RO044-071001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a level landscape c. 60m from the W corner of the subrectangular Loughaneally lough (dims c. 530m NW-SE; c. 270m NE-SW), which is marked only on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Loughaneally was probably a turlough and is now reclaimed. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 52.7m NW-SE; 51m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.5-9m; int. H 0.2-0.5m; ext. H 0.55-1.2m) with some bushes ENE-S-N, which has been removed elsewhere, and a complete rounded fosse (Wth of top 7-9m; Wth of base 1.8-3m; D 0.6-0.8m). The entrance and causeway (Wth 6m) are at SE and there are lazy-beds in the interior. Relict field boundaries (Wth 4m; H 0.3m) approach the monument from the S at E (L c. 120m), SW (L c. 100m) and WNW (L c. 130m).   Description

  On a level landscape c. 60m from the SW side of the subrectangular Loughaneally lough (dims c. 530m NW-SE; c. 270m NE-SW), which is marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Loughaneally was probably a turlough and is now reclaimed. This is a rectangular grass-covered area (dims 124m ENE-WSW; 118m NNW-SSE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4-4.5m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.5-0.6m) and an outer silted ditch (Wth of base 1.3-1.5m; D 0.1m). The SW angle has been removed by a WNW-ESE field bank. The area encloses is about 1.5 ha (c. 3.8 acres).   On a level landscape on the NW shore of Loughaneally lough (dims c. 530m NW-SE; c. 270m NE-SW), which is marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Loughaneally was probably a turlough and is now reclaimed. Relict field boundaries (Wth 4m; H 0.3m) approach the rath (RO044-070001-) from the S at E (L c. 120m), SW (L c. 100m) and WNW (L c. 130m), although they do not reach the fosse of the rath. The rectangular enclosure (RO044-071002-) is c. 20m S of the rath and its perimeter at N cuts the field bank approaching the rath from the SW.   Description

  On a slight S-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 53.3m E-W; 51.8m N-S) defined by a flat-topped earthen bank (Wth of base 3.7-6m; Wth of top 1-1.2m; int. H 0.35-1.25m; ext. H 0.85-2.4m) and hedge, with a rounded fosse (Wth of top 5.5-6m; Wth of base 2.8-3.2m; D 1.2-1.5m) S-N. There is no identifiable original entrance but a rectangular house site (RO044-072002-) (int. dims 8.6m N-S; 8.5m E-W) defined by a wall foundation (Wth 1-1.2m) is at the centre, and a similar house site (RO044-072003-) (int. dims 8m N-S; 6m E-W) defined by a stone spread (Wth 1.2-1.6m) abuts the inner face of the bank at S. There is a tradition of the monument's use as a children's burial ground (RO044-072004-) (Gannon 1972), and it is bisected by a N-S road just E of the centre.   Description

  On a gentle S-facing slope. D-shaped grass-covered and poached area (dims 33.3m NE-SW; 28.2m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.4-4.5m; int. H 0.45-0.75m; ext. H 1-1.3m) with some bushes, but the perimeter is truncated by a WNW-ESE field bank at SW. There is a record of a fosse (Gannon 1972) which is no longer visible, and there is no identifiable original entrance. • RO044-074 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a slight rise in an undulating landscape. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 48.2m NE-SW; c. 50m NW-SE) defined by a flat-topped earthen bank (Wth of base 4.6-5.4m; Wth of top 1m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.4-1.8m) and a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 5.2-6.5m; Wth of base 2m; D 0.5-0.7m) S-W-NE, but the perimeter is circumscribed by a field bank and hedge NW-NE. The monument is truncated by a NE-SW field wall and townland boundary with Grange at SE and the perimeter is visible as a low scarp here. However, NW of the townland boundary the ground had been cleared back (Wth 12m) and the material added to the centre forming a low D-shaped and grass-covered platform (dims 22m NE-SW; 12m NW-SE; H 0.2m normally to 0.8m at SE).
