Description
Aerial photograph (GB90.CM.10) shows cropmark of a circular enclosure defined by a fosse. First recorded as a positive cropmark in July 1990. Changes in field boundaries make this difficult to locate precisely. The above report has been compiled by Dr. G.F. Barrett and supplied to the Archaeological Survey of Ireland. Date of this report: 01 February 2010 Compiled by Caimin O'Brien Date of upload / revision : 13 August 2010
- LA014-098 Burial
Description
The files of the National Museum of Ireland records that in August 1958 human remains were discovered during quarrying operations at a sandpit at Brockley Park, near Stradbally, Co. Laois (Cahill & Sikora 2011, Vol. 2, 489). Part of the sand pit had collapsed, and the remains were discovered in the collapse. As they had been disturbed from their context, it was not possible to determine the disposition of the burial. There was no evidence for slabs or associated artefacts. The site was not investigated by the Museum, and the remains were not acquired (NMI File). Although no exact location for this burial has been identified in the NMI files there is only one sandpit in Brockley Park visible on OSI aerial photogrpahs of this townland and this would appear to be the likely location of this burial. Compiled by Caimin O'Brien Date of upload / revision : 10 August 2012
