• TS059-074 Enclosure
  Description

  In improved pasture, on a N-facing slope. Oval area (overall dims. 18m NNW-SSE; c. 24m ENE-WSW) defined by scarp (Wth 2-2.5m; H 0.15-0.25m) from S-NNE, which is less pronouced from SE-S and levelled out from NNE-SE, an intervening fosse (Wth 6.9m; D 0.18m) from SE-W-N and the remains of an outer bank (Wth 8.2m; int. H 0.18m; ext. H 0.05m) from SE-W and NW-N, which has been reduced to a levelled scarp (Wth 3.8m; H 0.3m) in the N-ENE. There is a causeway (Wth 3.5m) across the fosse at the NW. The enclosure is transected by a field boundary running NNW-SSE across the ENE sector. A field boundary (long axis E-W) depicted on the 1904 edition OS 6-inch map, truncating the monument at S, has been removed. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

  Description

  In improved, slightly undulating pasture, on a low rise. An oval area (dims. 21m NE-SW; 18m NW-SE) defined by a bank (Wth 5.9m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 1.23m) WSW-NNW and scarp (Wth 1.3m; H 0.85m) from NNW-SSE and WSW-W, which has been levelled out from SSE-W (Wth 2m; H 0.17m). There are the possible remains of a fosse (Wth 5.7m; D 0.1m) at the SSE and NE-ENE. The scarp has been eroded where there is a pond at the NE.   Description

  In improved pasture, on a low rise. Monument identified during ASI fieldwork. A sunken, circular area (dims. 14m NNW-SSE; 13m ENE-WSW) defined by scarp (Wth 1.5m; H 0.15m) SSW-NE, low bank (Wth 4.5m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.17m) NE-ENE and WSW-WNW; Levelled ESE-SSW. The interior has a prevalent SSE-facing slope and the NE quadrant is higher than the rest of the interior. Enclosure (TS059-079----) is c. 42m NNW.   Description

  In improved pasture, on a gentle E-facing slope. Monument identified during ASI fieldwork. An oval area (dims. 21m NE-SW; 17m NW-SE) defined by scarp (Wth 3.6m; H 2.45m) and outer fosse (Wth 7.5m; D 0.4m) NNW-NE. The scarp is best preserved from SW-NE and has been further levelled (Wth 5.3m; H 0.25m) from NE-SW. A field boundary (long axis NNW-SSE) truncates the presumed arc of the fosse SW-NW. The interior has a gentle E-facing slope. The enclosure is depicted on the 1904 edition OS 6-inch map as an arc of hachures W-N and is truncated by a field boundary across the S and W sectors.
