• TN047-042 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in undulating pasture just off the summit of a low hill on an E-facing slope. The ground also slopes quite steeply outside the outer bank at W. A slightly oval area (diam. 36m N-S; 41.5m E-W) enclosed by a bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.26m; ext. H 1.38m) which is quite denuded. There is a possible entrance gap (Wth 2.7m) at NE but no clearly definable fosse although there is a slight dip at the base of the bank at S. A pathway has been cut through the W sector and the NW sector has been quarried into. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary.   Description

  Aerial photograph (GB91.EU.11) shows cropmark of a circular enclosure defined by two concentric fosses. First recorded as a positive cropmark in August 1991.   Description

  In tillage. A circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m), defined by a fosse, the S portion of which is visible as a cropmark on satellite imagery (Apple Maps), identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère. A enclosure (TN047-124----), also visible as a cropmark, is located c. 60m to the SSW. An E-W field boundary, runs through the centre of the monument.
