Description
Situated at the crest of the SE-facing slope of a drumlin. It is depicted as an oval enclosure on the 1834 edition of the OS 6-inch map and as a hachured feature on the 1907 edition. It was described in 1942 as a circular area defined by an earthen bank that had been converted into a stockyard (SMR file). It was recorded in 1947 (OSFM) as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 29-30m) defined by an earthen bank (Wth c. 2-3.5m; H c. 1m). The location of the monument is now occupied by a bungalow. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). Description
Situated on a hill within the town of Clones. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 26m N-S; 26m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (at N: Wth of base 3.1m; Wth of top 1m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1.15m) with trees and scrub and an outer fosse (at N: Wth of top 2.2m; ext. D 0.15m). There is a large modern entrance gap at SSW, but the original entrance is not identified. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Monaghan' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1986). Description
Ten-bay single-storey former school, built c.1930, with seven-bay single-storey projecting entrance block to front and single-bay single-storey boiler house attached to north elevation. Now in use as hall. Pitched slate roof with three equidistant red brick chimneystacks with rendered copings. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth rendered plinth course. Plaque to front wall reads 'Scoil Tighearnaigh Naomhtha/Scoil Náisiúnta'. Square-headed window openings with two-over-two pane timber sliding sash windows, with smooth rendered reveals and painted sills to end bays and front elevation entrance porch; timber casement windows to clerestory level of main block, with smooth rendered reveals and painted sills. Square-headed door opening to centre of entrance block, with battened timber door and smooth rendered surrounds. Set within small yard, enclosed by rubble stone wall with chamfered stone coping, smooth rendered gate piers with chamfered coping. Located on eastern side of Church Hill Road.

Wall-mounted cast-iron post-box, c.1915, with raised royal 'G.R.' and crown motif to base, and raised 'Letters Only' lettering to head. Still in use. Set into rubble stone wall with chamfered stone coping. Located on eastern side of Church Hill Road to south-west of school and chapel.

Description
Freestanding limestone Gothic Revival gable-fronted cruciform-plan Roman Catholic church, built 1891-5 by Patrick Nolan of Monaghan to designs by William Hague Jr., with spired tower added 1897 to designs by William Hague. Comprises four-bay nave, side aisles, chancel, lean-to single-bay side chapels to both sides of chancel, three-bay sacristy to south-east of chancel, gabled porch abutting north aisle and hipped south porch between transept and sacristy, and having four-stage tower to south-west corner crowned by broach spire with two levels of lucarnes. Pitched slate roof with terracotta ridge cresting, stone cross finials and stone verges, and moulded cast-iron gutters. Squared and snecked rock-faced limestone walling over splayed plinth, angle buttresses with offsetting, dressed sandstone upper belfry stage of tower with octagonal corners rising into crocketed pinnacles and with band of trefoil-headed recesses and moulded string course. Trefoil-headed stained-glass windows throughout, two-light to clerestory and single-light to nave and aisles, triple-light to transept and chancel gables having cut sandstone block-and-start surrounds, quatrefoil windows to upper front elevations of side aisles, and hexafoil windows surmounting transept gables. Tower belfry has paired pointed arch openings with timber louvers and central carved sandstone colonettes. Vertically sheeted varnished timber doors with wrought-iron strap hinges throughout. Pointed arch doorways to front elevation of nave and tower, rebated cut limestone surrounds with engaged pink granite colonnettes, Early English capitals, and surmounted by block label-ended hood-mouldings, double-leaf doors with similarly details tympanums over, shouldered opening to south elevation and north porch with cut limestone surrounds. Interior has timber open scissors truss roof, pointed arch arcade on polished granite columns with Early English capitals separating nave and side aisles. Carved marble reredos and side altars, carved timber gallery to west wall of interior, with organ. Polychrome tiled floor. Carved timber pews and Stations of the Cross. Decorative metal lights. Carved marble stoups, baptismal font and altar furniture. Set back from road in wooded sloping grounds enclosed by rubble boundary wall with wrought-iron double-leaf gates and flanking pedestrian gate hinged to ashlar sandstone splayed gate piers with pyramidal caps.

Description
Rock-faced limestone boundary wall built to courses, built c.1910, with ashlar stone coping and number of entrance gates and square-plan piers. Main entrance piers of ashlar stone with chamfered corners and plinths, carved crosses to roadside/west elevations, with ashlar pyramidal coping topped with cast-iron Greek crosses. Other piers of rock-faced stone with ashlar pyramidal copings, some topped with cut-stone finials. Decorative cast-iron and wrought-iron double and single-leaf gates.

Five-bay single-storey former temperance hall, dated 1912, with gable-fronted breakfront entrance, and having higher six-bay single-storey return to rear, east-most bay of latter being lower, with single and further lower two-bay blocks. Further four-bay building to east. Pitched slate roofs with terracotta ridge tiles, pair of smooth rendered central chimneystacks to front block with rendered coping and terracotta pots, rendered gable copings topped having moulded kneelers and finials to apexes, and moulded eaves course. Rectangular-profile cast-iron rainwater goods. Roughcast rendered walls with smooth rendered plinth course and with smooth rendered block-and-start quoins to entrance. Plaque above entrance reads 'St. Joseph’s Temperance Hall 1912'. Stepped buttresses to south elevation of return. Square-headed window openings with replacement windows, painted sills and smooth rendered sill course. Blind Venetian-style windows to gables of front block. Windows to return set within square-headed niches and windows of eastern building flanked by pilasters. Round-headed door opening with double-leaf timber panelled door surmounted by glazed fanlight, smooth rendered chamfered block-and-start surrounds with large moulded keystone, approached by flight of concrete steps. Bounded by rock-faced limestone wall brought to courses with chamfered stone coping, smooth rendered gate piers with pyramidal copings, and decorative wrought-iron double-leaf gates. Located on eastern side of Church Hill Road directly south of churchyard wall.

Description
Detached five-bay single-storey former railway goods shed, built c.1860. Now in use as hardware storage building. Pitched slate roof with roof vents. Rubble limestone walls built to courses, with embossed pointing. Round-arch window openings with glazed timber windows, rock-faced voussoirs with smooth soffits, rock-faced block-and-start surrounds and replacement concrete sills. Square-headed door openings with replacement doors to north elevation. Set within large yard, with rubble limestone boundary wall, with water pump set within red brick housing.

Description
Wall-mounted cast-iron post box, erected c.1890, of WB87/2 Victorian Type C with VR inscription and crown motif. The letter opening is sheltered by a sloped panel with lettering 'POST OFFICE' cast to top, over door with slot for collection time notices to top, a lock and small door handle below. Moulded architrave forms outer edge of box and manufacturer's mark 'W.T.Allen & Co. London' cast below door. Set in roughcast rendered wall at bottom of steps providing access to mid-twentieth-century housing estate.
