- LF014-101 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a gentle NNE-facing slope in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 50.4m) enclosed by a very low bank of earth and stone (Wth 3.9m; H 0.2m max.) with an external fosse (Wth 4m; D 0.25m), which is identifiable only from NNE-E-ESE. A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded an outer bank at NW and N and noted that the original entrance may have been at SE. The outer bank has since been levelled and the entranceway is no longer identifiable. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- LF014-106 Enclosure
Description
On a WSW-facing slope in pasture. Depicted as a subrectangular enclosure with the designation ‘Fort' on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. A raised rectangular area (37.7m ENE–WSW; 36.3m NNW–SSE) enclosed by a substantial bank of earth and stone (Wth 5.2m; H 1.2m), which has been modified and incorporated into a field boundary along the NE and SE sides. There is no trace of a fosse but a sunken laneway at the external base of the bank, at the W end of the SW side and along the NW side, may incorporate the line of one. There are modern entrances at the N end of the NW and SE sides. Built against the outer face of the bank at SSW are the ruins of a 19th-century house and outbuildings. Compiled by: Patrick F. O'Donovan Date of upload: 6 February 2012
