• GA117-091001 Ritual site - holy well
  Description

  In level pastureland. Named ‘Holy Well’ in Gothic script on the 1838 and 1947 editions of the OS 6-inch map. On inspection, all that remained of this dried-up well was a small rectangular depression (0.3m E-W; 0.2m N-S; D 0.25m). Immediately to its W was an irregularly shaped bullaun stone (GA117-091002-). Both the holy well and the bullaun are located on a raised roughly oval-shaped stone-faced platform (9.5m N-S; 7.5m E-W; H 0.5m).   Description

  Within the NW part of a children's burial ground (GA117-092002-). This roughly rectangular granite bullaun stone (0.68m E-W; 0.65m N-S; H 0.4m) bears a circular basin (diam. 0.2m; D 0.15m) just to the S of its centre. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 5 September 2019

  Description

  In low-lying grassland. This children's burial ground consists of a wedge-shape area (L 20m; Wth 8.5m) defined by a degraded scarp with traces of stone-facing at S. Mainly recumbent stones mark graves running in rows from NW to SE. According to local information the last burial took place c. 1903. A bullaun stone (GA117-092001-) is visible in the NW half.
