- TS067-020 Earthwork
Description
In pasture, on steep NE-facing slope. Earthworks identified on aerial photograph (CUCAP 10 July 1969, AYO 48). Irregular shaped area (dims. 230m N-S; c. 160m E-W) defined by overgrown, undulating scrub on E side and remains of a small rectangular structure (c. 17m NW-SE; c. 19m NE-SW) to N. Rectangular structure defined by earthen and stone bank (Wth c. 2.1m; H c. 0.3-0.4m). A pentagonal area (dims. 44m NW-SE; c. 50m NE-SW) is to W. Pentagonal area defined by broad, low profile earthen bank (H c. 0.1m) to NE (L c. 44m), SE (L c. 34m), S (L c. 27m), SW (L c. 20m) and field boundary to WNW. Interior slopes down to NE with prevalent slope. Further traces of earthworks to S. Sheer slope drops to stream to E and ESB pylon to SE. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011

Description
On a gentle W-facing slope, to the N of Knockballynoe House and c. 50m E of a small pond (dims. c. 50m x 30m), in pasture. Description
In level area of improved pasture. Boggy land to S. Drainage works in 1993 levelled out small, circular mound (diam. c. 3.5-4m) of black soil and heat-shattered stone. Drain cut through area of field at location of former field boundary. Burnt material evident in section of drain. Burnt material still evident under sod at both sides of drain, demarcated by differential growth in grass. Drain flows directly into a small stream to SE. Description
Detached three-bay two-storey house, built c.1860, with recent hipped porch to front and single-storey lean-to extension to rear. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks and cast-iron rainwater goods. Painted pebbledashed walls. Square-headed window openings with replacement uPVC windows and painted sills. Square-headed door opening to porch with replacement uPVC door. Rubble limestone walls flanking house with pointed arch pedestrian gateways with yellow brick voussoirs to arches. Wrought-iron gate to western integral archway and replacement timber battened door to eastern. Outbuildings arranged around courtyard to rear of house. Three-bay two-storey north range with hipped slate roof and timber battened fittings, single-storey carthouse to west with blocked segmental brick-arched carriage entrance and having recently reslated hipped roof and L-plan multiple-bay single-storey east range with pitched and hipped slate roofs with louvered timber windows and battened timber door. Round-arched pedestrian gateway to north range of outbuildings with red brick voussoirs to arch and wrought-iron gate. Replacement wrought-iron gate set to roughly-dressed limestone gate piers and rubble limestone walls to front of site.
