  Description

  On a gentle NW facing slope in gently undulating terrain. Depicted on both the 1st (1840) and 2nd (1907) ed. OS 6-inch map as the site of Clocully Castle. • TS088-023001 Bawn
  Description

  On an flat island (c. 240m N-S x c. 95m E-W) in the middle of the River Suir, under pasture. The Civil Survey (1654-5) refers to 'two thatcht houses with chemnyes and a Bawne about them, some cabbins and an orchard. The River Sewer runeth by the sd lands' in the 'colpe of Cloghcully' under the proprietorship of 'Edmond Butler of Cloghcully Esqr & his ffather Thomas Lord Barron of Cahyr Irish Papists' (Simington 1931, vol.1, 342). Though this reference may be associated with Clocully Castle, 250m to the NE, there is definite evidence of a bawn on the island. An roughly diamond shaped bawn (dims. 200m NW-SE; 90m NE-SW) is clearly visible as a cropmark on an aerial photograph taken in May 1977 (GSI S. 716/15). An internal rectangular structure, presumably a house (TS088-023002-), is located in the N apex, the NW angle of the bawn forming two sides of the structure. The bawn wall runs to a point at the most south-easterly portion of the island where there appears to be a circular turret. None of these features are visible above ground.   Description

This possible house is located within the N apex of a bawn (TS088-023001-), also indicated as a cropmark on the aerial photograph. The NW angle of the bawn incorporates the N and W sides of the structure. None of these features are visible at ground level. This island is subject to flooding.   Description

  On a flat island (c. 240m N-S x c. 95m E-W) in the middle of the River Suir, under pasture. The island is subject to flooding. The 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map has the text 'Site of Old Mill' on this island, however, the mill building itself appears to be depicted in the river immediately E of the island. On the 2nd (1904-05) ed. this is shown as a small island in the river. The current OSI base map suggests that the island has been enlarged to the E to encompass the area of the mill which was formerly surrounded by water.   Description

  On a flat island (c. 240m N-S x c. 95m E-W) in the middle of the River Suir, under pasture. The island is subject to flooding. The 1st (1840) and 2nd (1907) eds. OS 6-inch map depicts a ford giving access to this island. The ford is shown as a double dashed line running roughly E-W from Clocully across the River Suir onto the upper E shore of the island (L c. 50m), the dashed line continues across the island to the opposite shore and then is depicted following the townland boundary down the river (L c. 120m) until it meets with a track in Knocknadempsey townland, opposite the south-western point of the island. There was a house (TS088-023002-) and bawn (TS088-023001-) on this island, which are referred to in the Civil Survey (1654-56) (Simington 1931, vol. 1, 342). • TS088-024 Enclosure
  Description

  On a SW-facing slope, running down towards the River Suir, in tillage. Monument is marked as a roughly circular enclosure on the 1st (1843) and 2nd (1907) ed. OS 6-inch map. It shows up as a low earthwork or cropmark on an aerial photograph (ASIAP (29) 0-3, (30) 21, 22, 3-8-96). The enclosure has been levelled but the roughly circular outline (diam. 54m) is still visible as a low, flattened bank (Wth 6-7m; int. H 0.12m; ext. H 0.69m).
