• ME049-020 Barrow - ring-barrow
  Description

  Located in a fairly level landscape. A small embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 25m) is depicted only on the 1836 edition of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as a ‘Fort’. This is a circular grass-covered area (diam. 9m) defined by two concentric fosses and outer banks (max. ext. diam. 25m). It is faintly visible on Google Earth (28/06/2018). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Meath' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1987). • ME049-030 Ring-ditch
  Description

  Situated on a slight rise in a level landscape. The cropmark of a small circular area (int. diam. c. 5m) defined by a wide fosse feature (Wth c. 3m) is visible on Google Earth (28/06/2018). It was first reported by Anthony Murphy. Archaeological testing (20E0404) by M. McCormick c. 100m to the W at the closest point produce no related material (excavations.ie 2020:248). • ME049-037 Burnt mound
  Description

  Located on a gentle W-facing slope c. 50m from a NW-SE section of the Rye Water c. 30m to the SW, and on the NW side of a NE-SW mill-race. It was first identified by L. Coen as an area with concentrations of burnt stone during archaeological monitoring (18E0296) of works associated with flood relief (excavations.ie 2018:668), and subsequently fully excavated (18E0377) by the same archaeologist (excavations.ie 2018:670). Four areas of broken and burnt stone in a black peaty clay matrix (dims 2m x 1.5m to 3m x 2m; T 0.05-0.17m) were uncovered. All appeared to be re-deposited and the area was traversed by a modern NE-SW filed drain. (Coen 2019) Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload; 27 September 2021
