- TS048-048 Enclosure
Description
On flat grassland atop low rise of ground with good views in all directions, on the demesne grounds of Lanespark House 200m to the SE. Enclosure visible on aerial photograph (GSI S 579/8) as a circular earthwork. Monument consists of a circular platform (diam. 42m N-S; 39m SE-NW) enclosed by a low broad bank (Wth 3.5m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.5m) which been mainly reduced to a scarp (H 1m) and possible outer fosse (Wth 1m; ext. D 0.1m). Field boundary bisects enclosure on a NW-SE axis, E half of enclosure in demesne woodland with beech trees planted around edge of platform, W half of enclosure now in grassland but originally in demesne woodland. The close proximity to the big house and its location in demesne woodland along with beech trees enclosing half of enclosure suggest possibility that the enclosure was used as a landscape feature. Could have been a ringfort re-used as a landscape feature or more likely that it was a landscape feature for the big house, ie. a tree ring. Doubtful antiquity, however not depicted on any ed. OS 6-inch map while other tree rings on the estate are indicated as tree rings. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS054-013 Church
Description
On a natural rock outcrop, in grassland with good views in all directions, the ruinous church is located in the N quadrant of a small rectangular-shaped graveyard (TS054-013002-). Only portions of the S wall (L 5.2m; 3m), along with the SW (L 4m) and NW (L 2m) angles of the church (approx. ext. dims. 7.6m N-S; 17m E-W; wall T 0.9m) survive, with no remains now visible of the E gable or the N wall. Ivy prevented inspection of the wall fabric. The graveyard wall is 6.7m N of the inner face of S wall of the church, possibly overlying the church's N wall foundations. Several large 20th-century burial monuments lie inside the church. Known as Teampull Geall (White Church), it is dedicated to SS Peter and Paul (Hassett 1990, 39). A quarry is located immediately N of the graveyard wall. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS054-013001 Graveyard
Description
On natural rock outcrop, in grassland with good views in all directions. Small rectangular-shaped graveyard (int. dims. 45m N-S; 37m E-W; wall T 0.45m; wall H 1m) with ruinous church (TS054-013001-) located in N quadrant of graveyard. Not clear if the graveyard wall built on the site of the N wall of the church or whether the N wall of the church is beyond the outer face of the graveyard wall. Graveyard wall probably constructed in the 19th century and may have pulled down church wall when constructing the wall along the N side of the graveyard. No other features visible. Several large 20th-century burial monuments inside church building. Church walls covered in ivy impossible to see wall construction. Quarry located immediately N of the graveyard wall to N of church.
