Description
In flat poorly drained land with good views in all directions, nearby river Suir 100m to N, enclosure (TS052-077----) c. 60m to the NNW; moated site (TS052-006----) 360m to W and ringwork with bailey (TS052-009----) 270m to S. Ringfort consists of a slightly raised circular area (int. diam. 25m N-S) enclosed by a poorly preserved and much degraded earthen bank (top Wth 2.1m; base Wth 4m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.4m). Description
In flat poorly drained land atop low rised of ground with good views in all directions, nearby stream to E, moated site (TS052-006----) 335m to NW and ringfort (TS052-007----) 270m to N. Possible ringwork consists of a slightly raised circular area (int. diam. 17m N-S; 14m E-W) enclosed by an earthen bank (top Wth 1m; base Wth 3m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 1m) at N end of larger enclosure or possible bailey (int. diam. 36m N-S; 38m E-W) which is enclosed by an earth and stone bank (top Wth 1m; base Wth 3m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 1-1.4m) and outer fosse (top Wth 5m; base Wth 2m; ext.D 0.5m). Earth and stone bank run off outer face of ringwork at E and NW, similar arrangement to a motte and bailey. The outer fosse encloses the bailey and the ringwork, possible causewayed entrance gap (Wth 3m) at S. Interesting monument which is depicted as a circular enclosure on the latest ed. Description
In flat poorly drained land with the River Suir flowing 40m to the N. There is a possible ringfort (TS052-007----) c. 60m to the SSE and a moated site (TS052-006----) 280m to the SW. There are good views in all directions. Identified on satellite imagery (OS Ortho, viewed 23 November 2011) as a roughly oval enclosure (dims. c. 30m N-S, c. 27m E-W) defined by a denuded earthen bank. See attached satellite image. Description
On flat poorly drained grasslaand on the floodplains of the River Suir which is located 60m to W, nearby ringwork and bailey (TS052-0090----) 335m to SE and ringfort (TS52-007----) 360m to E. Well-preserved moated site consisting of a rectangular area (int. dims. 77m NE-SW; 56m NW-SE ) enclosed by a wide flat-topped earth and stone bank (Wth 3m crest; 8m base; int. H 1-1.5m; ext. H 1.5m) and wide flat-bottomed waterlogged outer fosse (Wth 4m base; 8m top; ext. D 0.6m) with widened gap (Wth 8m) in bank at SW. Modern gap in bank in NE side near E angle of bank. Enclosing bank is best preserved along SE and SW sides and outer fosse also best preserved from E through S to W elsewhere it has been filled in. No other features visible.
