  Description

  On a shelf of level ground on a S-facing slope. A raised subcircular area (diam. 42m E-W; 40m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 0.9-1.75m) to which modern drystone-walling has been applied at SW. At the base of the scarp from WNW-N-NE and at ESE is a largely infilled fosse (Wth 4-5m; D 0.1-0.2m). A depression (Wth 4m) in the scarp at ENE with an accompanying ramp may mark the original entrance. The rath is divided into roughly equal portions by a modern NNW-SSE field boundary.   Description

  On a low knoll in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A circular area (diam. 30m) defined by a gentle scarp (H 1-1.5m), which has been incorporated into a curving field boundary from ESE-S-SSW.   Description

  On a S-facing slope in pasture. Depicted as a roughly circular tree-planted enclosure on the 1837 edition of the OS 6-inch map. A raised subcircular area (33m N-S; 31.7m E-W) enclosed from N-S-WNW by a bank of earth and stone (Wth 2.5-7.4m; H 0.2-0.9m) and defined elsewhere by a low scarp (H 0.25-0.4m). The remains of possible drystone-walling are identifiable on the inner face of the bank. There is no trace of a fosse. A stone-revetted break (Wth 1.95m-2.35m) in the bank at E probably marks the original entrance. Within the NE quadrant of the interior are the remains of a possible house site (LF011-019002-).   Description

  On a level shelf of ground on a gentle SW-facing slope in pasture. Depicted as a large oval enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1975 (SMR file) recorded a large, raised oval area (c. 77m NW-SE; c. 60m NE-SW) enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone. There was no trace of a fosse and the original entrance was not recognisable. The monument has since been levelled and is not visible at ground level. Compiled by: Patrick F.   Description

  On level, poorly drained pasture. A raised circular area (diam. 33.5m) enclosed from NNE-NE-ENE by a levelled bank of earth and stone (Wth 7m; H 0.2m) and elsewhere defined by a scarp (H 0.5-0.7m). At the base of the scarp at NW is a shallow fosse (Wth 4.5m; D 0.15m). From WSW-W-NW the scarp has been modified and incorporated into a NNW-SSE field boundary. • LF011-022 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In level damp pasture, bordered at the E and S by a forestry plantation of spruce and larch. A clearing in the plantation now encloses the S half of the rath. Depicted on the OS 25-inch plan (surveyed 1911) as a roughly oval area (c. 43m E–W; c. 31m N–S) incorporated into later field fences at W, NE and E. An inspection in 2012 found that an earthen bank curving from W–N–E is extant on the N half of the rath but the bank on the S half has been levelled. The surviving bank (Wth 3-3.5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.8-2m at NE) has been modified to serve as a field boundary and is engulfed in dense overgrowth of brambles and elder scrub. Its internal slope appears to be low and broadly slumped. Externally it has a pronounced, almost vertical face, which drops into a sharply cut ditch (Wth 1.6-2m; ext. H 0.6-0.8m). The ditch serves as a field drain, continuing beyond the rath to the W and SE. It is not clear if it has cut through a pre-existing fosse. The interior of the rath is level and appears to be slightly raised above the external ground level. The N half is covered in impenetrable brambles, the S half in rough grass and a cluster of willows. A greater density of rushes marks the outer edge of the rath along its S half, where no trace of a bank or fosse is evident. Compiled by: Jane O’Shaughnessy Date of upload: 17 January 2013

  On a rise in poorly drained, rushy pasture with a stream immediately to the S. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. A report in 1963 (SMR file) indicates that this monument was levelled in the early 1960s. However, the outline of its perimeter may still be traced defining a circular area (diam. c. 44m).
