- TS054-014 Enclosure
Description
In grassland situated on an E-W ridge with panoramic views of upland region in all directions. No surface remains visible of levelled enclosure. Monument indicated on the 1st (1840) 6-inch OS map and on the 1903 ed. (diam. c. 30m), though the NE and SE quadrants are not indicated on the later edition. Possible megalithic structure (TS054-014002-) in S quadrant of levelled enclosure. Fine panoramic location for monument not typical for a ringfort more in keeping with a prehistoric monument. Upstanding enclosure clearly visible on aerial photograph taken in 1974 (GSI S. 578/7). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS054-014001 Megalithic structure
Description
In grassland situated on E-W ridge with panoramic views of upland region in all directions. Possible megalithic structure in S quadrant of levelled enclosure (TS054-014001-). Structure consists of a large earthfast boulder (L 2.33m; Wth 0.8m: H 0.5m) with three smaller recumbent slabs underneath the W face of the large boulder. Unclear if this a megalithic structure or just some field clearance debris dumped up against large rock protruding from surface of the hilltop. However its fine panoramic location and its association with a levelled enclosure suggest a possible megalithic structure rather than field clearance debris. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS054-020001 Enclosure
Description
In grassland, situated on a S-facing slope of rising ground in upland region with good views from E through S to W, higher ground to N. Barely visible partial outline of filled in fosse (approx. Wth 3m; ext. D 0.2m) on N side of levelled enclosure (approx. diam 38m N-S). Outline of fosse visible from NW through N to NE only no visible remains elsewhere. Field boundary running NW-SE which intersected the enclosure on its NE side has been removed and enclosure was probably levelled when field boundary was being removed. Field boundary and upstanding enclosure visible on aerial photograph in 1974 (GSI S. 578/7). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
- TS054-020002 Megalithic structure
Description
In grassland, situated on a S-facing slope of rising ground in upland region with good views from E through S to W, higher ground to N. According to OPW correspondence (July 1938) within an enclosure (TS054-020001-) there was 'a large stone with smaller stones near by which may have been a dolmen'. No visible remains of any megalithic structure associated with this enclosure, probably destroyed when the enclosure was levelled. Field boundary running NW-SE which intersected the enclosure on its NE side has been removed and monument was probably levelled when field boundary was being removed. Field boundary and upstanding enclosure visible on aerial photograph in 1974 (GSI S. 578/7). Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 26 August 2011
