• TS081-034 Enclosure
  Description

  On a gradual SE-facing slope in gently undulating terrain, on a low natural ridge running NE-SW. Enclosure (TS081-035----) now levelled would have been visible c. 250m to the S. Enclosure (diam. c. 40m) is bisected by an earthen field boundary with stone revetting, running N-S, and is respected by a field boundary running NE-SW. The site is depicted on the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map as a circular, banked enclosure with trees in the interior. On the subsequent 2nd (1906) ed. the monument is not marked implying that the site was levelled between 1840 and 1906. The W side of the enclosure is in tillage, the former bank is faintly discernible as a curving rise (Wth 5m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.18m) in the field. The E side is under grass with no visible trace above ground. According to the landowner the corner of the tillage field where the monument was located is noted as being particularly stony. • TS081-035 Enclosure
  Description

  On a gradual NW-facing slope of hill in gently rolling terrain, under tillage. Depicted on 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map as an oval, banked enclosure with trees growing in interior and is marked on the 2nd (1906) ed as an oval area (diam. c. 35m N-S; c. 37m E-W) enclosed by a bank, except in the SE quadrant and the enclosure itself, apart from the W quadrant, is surrounded by field boundaries. The site has been levelled and surrounding field boundaries to the N and S have been removed. There is no visible trace of the monument above ground. The E quadrant has been left waste/fallow and young trees have been planted along the straight sides of the quadrant. Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 07 January 2014

• TS081-036 Enclosure
  Description

  Just off the crest of a gentle hill on a S-facing slope, in gently undulating pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure (overall diam. c. 60-70m) on 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map within a small tree plantation (dims. c. 180m NE-SW; c. 90m NW-SE), the monument is not marked on the subsequent 2nd (1906) ed. The enclosure has been levelled however the outline is still visible as scarp (H 0.35m) in the W quadrant and a flattened bank in the NE. The SE sector is defined by a pronounced scarp (H 1.5m) and possible outer fosse (Wth 3.8m) and corresponding curving kink in the earthen townland boundary (Wth 1.9m; int. H 1.75m; ext. H 0.8m).   Description

  In pasture. A circular enclosure (diam. c. 30m) visible on satellite imagery (Google Earth satellite image, imagery date 20 January 2020), identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère. On the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map the enclosure is not depicted, but the area is shown as being occupied by a small tree plantation (dims. c. 180m NE-SW; c. 90m NW-SE) within which is an adjacent enclosure (TS081-036----) c. 45m to the SW, now largely levelled. The Google Earth satellite imagery also shows another possible enclosure (TS081-088----) adjoining to the NE, the N and E sides of which also appear to have formed the NE edge of the tree plantation. There is another enclosure (TS081-035----) 325m to the NW.   Description

  In pasture. A possible rectangular enclosure (diam. c. 40m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE) visible on satellite imagery (Google Earth satellite image, imagery date 20 January 2020), identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère. On the 1st (1840) ed. OS 6-inch map the enclosure is not depicted, but the area is shown as being occupied by a small tree plantation (dims. c. 180m NE-SW; c. 90m NW-SE) and the N and E sides of the enclosure appear to have formed the NE edge of the tree plantation. The S side of the enclosure is not clearly defined on the satellite image. This rectangular enclosure adjoins a circular enclosure (TS081-087----) to the SE, also identified on the satellite image. There is another enclosure (TS081-036----) c. 75m to the SW, now largely levelled and another (TS081-035----) 350m to the NW.
