Description
Situated on a NE-facing slope of rising ground in an upland area with a river ravine immediately to SE and possible ringfort site (TN034-060) also to SE. A square-shaped area (dims. 23m NE-SW; 26m NW-SE) enclosed by two earth and stone banks with intervening, wide flat-bottomed fosse (Wth 5m) and entrance gap (Wth 7m) at ENE. The fosse and outer bank (Wth 3.5m; ext. H 1.5m) are visible from SE through S to SW where the bank survives as a field boundary. The inner bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.65m; ext. H 0.5-1.2m) is destroyed at SW. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Tipperary. Description
Situated on an E-facing slope of rising ground in a mountainous region with a nearby moated site (TN034-059) to the NW. The barely discernible outline of a circular area (diam. 30m approx.) enclosed by an earth and stone bank (Wth 3.5m; ext. H 1.4m) and outer fosse (Wth 2.2m; D 0.5m) both of which survive as a field boundary from S to W only, elsewhere destroyed. Description
Freestanding cruciform-plan Catholic church, dated 1826, with four-bay elevations to nave, single-bay chancel, single-bay sacristy and two-bay transepts. Pitched artificial slate roofs, with ashlar limestone belfry with cross finial to the south transept. Rendered walls with render plat-bands and stone date plaques. Pointed-arch openings with limestone sills, having stained-glass windows. Round-arch doorway with chamfered surround and timber panelled double-leaf door with date plaque above. Random rubble boundary walls with ashlar sandstone gate piers having cast-iron gates. Graveyard to site.
