• LE032-025 Crannog
  Description

  This is attached to the N shore of Headford Lough, a sub-rectangular lake (dims c. 330m E-W; 230m N-S), which as larger (dims c. 400m E-W; c. 260-400m N-S) as represented on the 1835 edition of the OS 6-inch map when the crannog was more centrally placed within the lake. This is a grass- and scrub-covered mound of stones (diam. 15m N-S; 15m E-W; H c. 0.7m) with no visible surface evidence of artificial construction, or of occupation. The above description is derived from 'The Archaeological Inventory of County Leitrim' compiled by Michael J. Moore (Dublin: Stationery Office, 2003). • LE032-102 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in rough pasture on a NNW-SSE ridge, with similar ridges c. 150m to the E and c. 200m to the SW. It was first identified by Susan Curran as part of an M.A. thesis with University College Dublin using a LiDAR survey dataset commissioned by Leitrim County Council and the National Roads Authority, and it is visible on the OSI aerial images (2005) and Bing images (c. 2013). This is a circular grass and rush-covered area (diam. 24m N-S; 24m N-S) defined by a shallow fosse SE-W-NE that is best preserved (Wth of top 6.2m; Wth of base 2.5m; D 0.2m) at S and is reduced to a scarp (Wth 1.7m H 0.15m) NE-SE. There is no recognisable entrance. The rath (LE032-005----) is on the parallel ridge c. 130m to the E. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 11 May, 2015

• LE032-103 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Situated in improved pasture on a bluff overlooking a slight fold to the W and Headford Lough c. 350m to the SE in a gently undulating landscape. It was first identified by Susan Curran as part of an M.A. thesis with University College Dublin using a LiDAR survey dataset commissioned by Leitrim County Council and the National Roads Authority. This is a circular area (diam. 30m N-S; 30m E-W) defined by a low earthen bank (at N: Wth of base 7m; Wth of top 1.7m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 0.2m) NNW-NE merging into the slope NE-SE. It is defined by a steep, tree-lined scarp (Wth 1.5m; H 1.3m) down to a NNW-SSE road S-W-NNW. The perimeter at S is incorporated into an ENE-WSW field bank with a gateway at S, perhaps on the location of the original entrance. There is no visible fosse.
