- GA099-109002 Enclosure
Description
On a slight rise in flat grassland. Very poorly preserved circular enclosure (diam. 29.2m) defined by a scarp. From N to E the enclosing element and part of the interior have been destroyed as a result of the construction of a house which is now ruined. The site of ‘Lisheennora Castle’ (GA099-109001-) is recorded on the OS 6-inch maps within its interior. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 21 June 2019
- GA099-175 Ringfort - rath
Description
In reclaimed grassland. Marked on the OS 6-inch maps as a roughly circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m). Apart from a low rise (max. H 0.8m) in the W sector, no visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 21 June 2019
- GA099-176 Quarry
Description
In reclaimed grassland. Named 'Gravel Pit (Disused)' on the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16). No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 21 June 2019

- GA099-178 Ringfort - rath
Description
In marshy grassland and scrub. Circular rath (diam. 23.2m), in fair condition, defined by a bank and external fosse. Possible entrance gap (Wth 3.5m) at E. The W half of the interior is densely overgrown. Traces of a possibly a house site (GA099-178001-) are visible in the S sector. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 April 2018
- GA099-178001 House - indeterminate date
Description
Within the S sector of the interior of a rath (GA099-178----) traces of the foundations of rectangular structure may be the remains of a possible house site. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 April 2018
- GA099-179 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a gentle rise in level grassland. Marked on the 1st and 3rd (1946-7) editions of the OS 6-inch maps as a subcircular enclosure with another possible enclosure adjoining it to N. Only the S end of the latter feature is depicted. The S enclosure consists of a poorly preserved circular rath (diam. 27.8m) defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank (Wth 1.7m; int. H 0.9m; ext. H 1m) is visible all round. The fosse (Wth 2.5m) and outer bank (Wth 1.6m; int. H 1m; ext. H 0.4m) are visible from W to NW. Either of two gaps at E and W could be original. The N enclosure is defined by a bank from SSE to SSW, otherwise no visible surface trace survives. It is unclear whether the latter feature is an annexe or whether this is the remains of a conjoined rath. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 7 September 2018
- GA099-180 Designed landscape feature
Description
In pastureland. Marked on the 1838 edition of the OS 6-inch map as an enclosed roughly triangular-shaped tree plantation; a N-S running roadway lies immediately to the W. On the OS 1:2500 plan (surveyed 1912-16) the enclosing wall is subcircular in plan, curving from NNW through E to S, and hachures are depicted off the wall from NE to S. On the 1946-7 revision of the 6-inch map only a line of hachures is shown curving from NNE to S; all the trees have been cleared away. On inspection in April 1983 only a natural mound of no archaeological significance was noted. The cartographic evidence suggests that this was most likely a landscape feature. Compiled by: Olive Alcock Date of upload: 10 July 2019

- GA100-032 Ringfort - rath
Description
In undulating grassland. Poorly preserved subcircular ringfort (NW-SE 44m) defined by a scarp from E through S to NW; elsewhere field clearance has destroyed the enclosing element. A field wall cuts the monument at NW and SE along which the td. and B. boundaries run. A CBG (GA100-032001-) is located within the interior. The find spot of the early Iron Age Somerset hoard lies c. 65m to SE of this monument (Raftery 1960, 1-40). The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
- GA100-032001 Children's burial ground
Description
Within a ringfort (GA100-032----). The 'caltragh' element of the ringfort's site name, 'Caltraghgarraun Fort', suggests the presence of a CBG. All that is visible are two low grass-covered mounds of stone and a few larger limestone boulders which may possibly indicate its location. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Galway Vol. II - North Galway'. Compiled by Olive Alcock, Kathy de hÓra and Paul Gosling (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Date of upload: 05 August 2010
- GA100-151 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a ridge in undulating pastureland. Subcircular rath (22m NW-SE; 18.5m NNE-SSW), in fair condition, defined by two banks of earth and stone and an intervening fosse. The inner bank and fosse survive throughout, although a modern hut has been built up against the outer face of the this bank at ENE. The outer bank is visible from NNE to NE and from E to SSE. From SSE to NNW a line of limestone rubble indicates its line. It is overlain by a field boundary from NNW to NNE. A causewayed entrance gap (Wth 2.5m) at SSW may be original. The rath is heavily overgrown with elder, ash and hawthorn. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 April 2018
- GA100-152 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a rise in pastureland. Oval rath (38.5m E-W; 30m N-S), in fair condition, defined by two banks and an intervening fosse. The inner bank is visible all round. The fosse is present from NE through S to NW, while the outer bank survives from ENE to SE and from WNW to NW. Several breaches in the banks appear to be modern. Quarrying has encroached upon the monument at NW. A children’s burial ground (GA100-152001-) is associated. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 April 2018
- GA100-152001 Children's burial ground
Description
Within a rath (GA100-152----). According to local information, a children's burial ground is associated with this monument. No visible surface trace survives. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 13 April 2018

- GA100-154 Barrow - mound barrow
Description
On an esker ridge in undulating pastureland. This circular barrow (diam. 23.5m), in fair condition, is defined by a raised flat-topped mound (diam. 3.2m; base diam. 14.45m; H c. 2m) surrounded by a berm (Wth 1.9-2m). It has been partially quarried out at N. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 16 August 2019

- GA100-158 Fulacht fia
Description
In rough grazing land close to a turlough. This fulacht fia is defined by a well-preserved horseshoe-shaped mound (9.2m E-W; H 0.3m) opening to the S. Burnt limestone was evident. A rath lies c. 45m to the NNW. Compiled by: Galway Archaeological Survey, UCG Date of upload: 16 August 2023
