Description
Marked as a circular embanked enclosure (ext. diam. c. 30m) only on the 1840 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Situated in pasture towards the top of a SE-facing slope, it is not visible at ground level. Rath (WA031-003001-) is c. 70m to the S. The above description is derived from the published 'Archaeological Inventory of County Waterford' (Dublin: Stationery Office, 1999). Description
Situated towards the top of a SE-facing slope. Circular scrub-covered area (diam. 34m NE-SW; 32.5m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3-4m; int. H 0.4m at SW (downslope) to 1.1m at NE; ext. H 0.8m at SW to 1.2m at NE), which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.8m) E-S, and an outer flat-bottomed fosse best preserved W-E (Wth of top 4.3-5.5m; Wth of base 2m; D 0.6-1m). There is no visible entrance. A souterrain site (WA031-003002-) is in the interior. The possible ringfort (WA031-002----) is c. 70m to the N. Description
Situated within rath (WA031-003001-). This is Z-shaped sunken area (Wth 2.7-3m; D 0.6-0.8m) extending from the bank at S to the centre of the rath (L of sections from S: 3.5m; 4.55m; 4.2m; 5m). - WA031-005 Ringfort - rath
Description
Situated on a S-facing slope. Circular area (diam. 38m NE-SW; 35m NW-SE) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 3-4m; H 0.4-0.8m) with an outer fosse (Wth of top 4.5-5m; Wth of base 2m). A slight berm (Wth c. 1.5m) separates the bank and fosse at S. An outer field bank (Wth 2m; H 0.7-0.9m) with stone-facing surrounds the site SW-N-SE, but this is just an earthen bank (Wth 2.5m; ext. H 0.9m) elsewhere. The entrance through the inner (Wth 2.4m) and outer (Wth 2.5m) banks is at SE, and the site is planted with coniferous trees.
