Description
On low-lying pasture. Circular area (diam. c. 25m) enclosed by stone bank (H 1m) NNW->N and SSE->SSW; overgrown or levelled elsewhere. Interior divided by E-W and N-S field fences; much outcropping occurs. Natural cave-opening immediately inside bank to NNW. Description
On E Side of Brown Island, in estuary to N of Great Island. Heavily overgrown, extent of midden not determined; mainly oyster shells visible. Schlichting (1973, 16-17) records 'a bank piled along edge of boulder clay knoll' measuring '130 feet long' and '2 to 4 feet thick'; midden contains majority of oyster shells as well as fragments of mussels, periwinkle, land snail, cockle and fire shattered stones. A radio-carbon determination of 300 +/- 50 bp (calibrated date range 1470 – 1690 AD) was recovered from oyster shell at this midden (Laboratory: Beta 161650) (Milner & Woodman 2007, 103). Description
Detached L-plan three-bay two-storey house, built c. 1750, with full height bow to south elevation. Hipped artificial slate roofs with rendered chimneystacks. Rendered walls. Square-headed openings with limestone sills and timber sliding sash windows throughout, six-over-six pane flanked by four-over-four-panes to ground floor rear (east) elevation of return, three-over-three pane to ground floor north elevation, six-over-six pane elsewhere. Round-headed door opening with half-glazed timber panelled double-leaf doors with spoked fanlight. Approached by flight of cut limestone steps. Square-headed opening with glazed timber double-leaf doors to south elevation of return. Walled garden with bee boles to north.
