Description
Visible as a feature on aerial photographs (ACAP: V206/28; OS 4/2049), and situated on a slight N-facing slope. D-shaped grass-covered area (dims 20m N-S; 20m E-W) defined by a fosse (Wth of top 3m; int. D 0.5m; ext. D 0.2m) W-NNW, and a scarp (H 0.3m) NNW-N. It is truncated by a N-S field bank at E and the WNW-ESE field bank that formed the N side of an avenue from Cloonyquin House c. 1km to the WNW at S. It does not survive beyond these features, but what may be the S loop of the perimeter can be seen S of the avenue (diam. c. 55m N-S) on aerial photograph (ACAP: V206/28). Description
On a rise in an undulating landscape. Oval platform (28.5m N-S; 23m E-W) sloping from the centre down to the E (H of slope 2m) defined by a scarp (H 0.8m at E to 2.2m at S) with some bushes. There is no visible bank or fosse, but the ramp entrance (Wth 3.2m) is at SW. A rectangular house site (RO022-065002-) (ext. dims 12.5m N-S; 5.2m E-W) divided into two rooms is visible as wall-footings (Wth 0.65-1m) on the perimeter at NW. A rectangular house site (ext. dims 12.5m N-S; 5.2m E-W) divided into two rooms is visible as wall-footings (Wth 0.65-1m) on the perimeter of rath (RO022-065001-) at NW. Description
On a NE-facing slope in an undulating landscape. Described as a circular area (int. diam. c. 32m) defined by the remains of a wall (Wth 2.8m) (Herity 1987a, 137). It is visible now as a circular grass-covered area (diam. 30m E-W; 28.6m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 0.3m at S to 1.1m at N). Description
On a hillock in an undulating landscape. Described as a circular area (int. diam. c. 28m) defined by the remains of a wall (Wth 2.5m) with a possible entrance at SE (Herity 1987a, 137). It is now visible as a circular grass-covered and domed area (diam. 29m E-W; 27m N-S) defined by a scarp (H 0.3m at W to 1.4m at S) E-S-NW, merging into the steep slope elsewhere. A band of reeds (Wth c. 4- 5m) outside the scarp around the summit indicates a fosse. There is a record of a cairn (RO022-083002-) just to the E. Description
Gannon (1972) describes a cairn with a hollow at the centre, which she thinks is probably natural, as it is 8m E of the rath (RO022-083001-). Description
Situated on a grass-covered oval hillock (dims c. 60m NW-SE; c. 30m NE-SW; H c. 5m) with some trees in an undulating landscape. Circular grass-covered cairn (diam. 8.5m N-S; 7.5m E-W; H 0.5-0.7m). The base of the hillock is surrounded by a band of lush vegetation (Wth 3-5m) suggesting it may have been enclosed (RO022-084003-). Cashel (RO022-083001-) is c. 170m to the WSW. Description
Marked only on the 1927 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as an oval hachured feature (dims c. 60m NW-SE; c. 35m NE-SW) with trees, and located on an oval hillock (dims c. 60m NW-SE; c. 30m NE-SW; H c. 5m) in a low-lying position on an undulating landscape. A band of lush vegetation (Wth 3-5m) all around the base of the hillock which has the cairn (RO022-084001-) indicates the fosse of an enclosure. Description
On a slight rise in a low-lying position on an undulating landscape. Described as a subcircular area (dims. 32m N-S; 27.5m E-W) defined by a fosse and outer earthen bank which had an entrance at E (Gannon 1972). Description
Detached T-plan Roman Catholic church, built c.1860, with entrance porch and sacristy to rear. Pitched slate roof with bellcote to east gable end, stone crosses over gables and cast-iron rainwater goods. Cut limestone walls with limestone quoins. Lancet windows with tooled chamfered surrounds and decorative stained glass windows. Roundel to sacristy and stained glass rose window to chancel. Segmental-headed door openings to entrance porch and pointed-arch door openings to transepts. All with timber battened double doors and chamfered limestone surrounds. Shrine to front site. Site enclosed by simple wrought-iron gates flanked by limestone piers and boundary wall. Located on roadside next to national school.
