Description
Marked on the 1837 and 1914 eds. of the OS 6-inch map, and built into the steep NE-facing slope of a ravine above a stream with a farmstead c. 70m to the W on the other side of a NW-SE road. Circular stone-built chamber (int. diam. 1.55m; H 2m) with inclining walls and a lintelled roof. The lintelled entrance ( Wth 0.4m; H 0.53m; L 1m) is at E. Description
Marked as a ruin on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map and described as a church (OS Name Books). Situated in a mature deciduous wood at the NE edge of a promontory (dims. c. 250m E-W; c. 250m N-S) which juts E into Lough Key. Rectangular structure (ext. dims. 14.1m N-S; 6.7m E-W) defined by drystone walls (T 0.7-0.9m; max. H 1m). It is divided into a N compartment (int. dims. 5.4m E-W; 3.15m N-S) and a S compartment (int. dims. 9.3m N-S; 5.95m E-W) with a small corral (int. dims. 3.2m E-W; 2.2m N-S) defined by drystone walls attached to the exterior of the E wall. Description
Marked on the 1837 and 1914 eds. of the OS 6-inch map with houses c. 100-140m to the N and NE. Built into a modern field-wall on the steep NE-facing slopes of Sheegorey Mountain with a silted-up drain to the E. Circular drystone-built chamber (int. diam. 1.3m; H 1.4m) with a corbelled roof entered by a low, lintelled passage (L 0.66m; Wth 0.43m; H 0.43m) at E and contained within a circular mound (diam. of base 3m; H 1-2m). Description
On a slight rise of flat ground in mixed woodland c. 50m fom the W shore of Lough Key opposite Hogs Island. Oval grass-covered area (int. dims. 23m NNE-SSW; 15m WNW-ESE) defined by a moss-covered stone spread (Wth 2.3-3.3m; int. H 0.1-0.2m; ext. H 0.2-0.7m) NE-NNW, but the perimeter is overlaid by an E-W drystone wall at N and there is a N-S drystone wall outside the perimeter at E. Some inner and outer facing stones are visible at E (original Wth 1.8m). The entrance (Wth 2.4m) is at SE and there are animal gaps at SW and E. The interior of cashel (RO006-005001-) is strewn with stones, but there is a concentration in a triangular area (dims. 8m N-S; 8m E-W) inside the perimeter at S.
