• RO029-091 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a gentle W-facing slope. Subcircular grass and rush-covered area (dims 58.6m N-S; 51.8m E-W) defined by a flat-topped earthen bank (Wth of base 5-5.7m; Wth of top 3-3.9m; int. H 0.6-1.1m; ext. H 1.2-1.4m) which is incorporated into a field bank and hedge E-SW and reduced to a scarp (H 0.3m) SW-NW. There is a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 5.2-6.3m; Wth of base 2.9-3.4m; D 0.3-0.9m) NW-E-SW, and an entrance (Wth 4m), but no causeway, at ENE. A shed is built on the perimeter at SW. • RO029-092 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On an E-facing slope. Oval grass-covered area (dims 35.7m E-W; 27m N-S) defined by an overgrown, flat-topped earthen bank (Wth of base 4.4-5.4m; Wth of top 2-3.1m; int. H 0.3m at S to 1.2m at W) which is reduced to a scarp (H 1.5m) NE-SE, and a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 4.8-6m; Wth of base 1-3m; D 0.4-1m) which is re-cut as a drain S-NW. There is a modern entrance (Wth 4m) and causeway (Wth 6m) at SW, but the original entrance cannot be identified. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010

  Description

  On a gentle S-facing slope. Circular grass and reed-covered area (diam. 35.6m N-S; 33m E-W) defined by an overgrown flat-topped earthen bank (Wth of base 3.6-4.9m; Wth of top 1.9-2.8m; int. H 0.3-0.6m; ext. H 0.9-1.5m) separated by a reed-filled fosse (Wth of top 5.3-6.5m; Wth of base 3.2-4.2m; D 0.6-1.2m) from an overgrown outer bank (Wth 1.9-4m; H 0.2-1m), which is incorporated into a field bank NW-NNE. There is no identifiable original entrance. A lime-kiln had been built on the perimeter at N, and the monument remains unplanted in a deciduous wood, although it is becoming increasingly scrub-covered. Rath (RO029-094----) is c. 130m to the S. • RO029-094 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Marked as an oval embanked enclosure (ext. dims c. 50m N-S; c. 35m E-W) on the 1837 ed. and as a semi-circular hachured feature (diam. c. 30m) W-S-E on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map. Situated on a gentle S-facing slope, and described as a circular area (diam. 26.5m E-W) defined by an earthen bank and outer fosse (Gannon 1972). It is no longer visible in a coniferous wood, although the area remains unplanted and scrub-covered. Rath (RO029-093----) is c. 130m to the N.
