Description
At the summit of Mewlaghadooey Hill. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims c. 200m E-W; c. 150m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (at W: Wth c. 6m; int. H 0.1m; ext. H 0.3m) SW-NW and a low scarp (H 0.2m) NW-E. Bowl barrow (RO027-014002-) is inside the perimeter at NW, ring-barrow (RO027-014003-) is on the line of the perimeter at SSE, and ring-barrow (RO027-014004-) is inside the line of the perimeter at SE. The road (RO027-014005-) approaches the perimeter externally at SE. The enclosure is cut by a NE-SW public road W of the bowl barrow, and overlain by NW-SE field banks to NE and SW of this barrow. Description
On a slight N-S ridge at the summit of Mewlaghadooey Hill. Circular, grass-covered flat-topped earthen mound (diam. of base 27m N-S; 25.5m E-W; diam. of top 9.8m N-S; 8.8m E-W; H 3.1m at E to 4m at W) with a slight pit (diam. 5.5m; D 0.2m) on the summit. It is within the hillfort (RO027-014001-), SW of the centre. Given its prominent position and its size, it might contain a passage tomb. Description
At the top of the S-facing slope of Mewlaghadooey Hill, and on the line of the perimeter of hillfort (RO027-014001-) at SE. Circular grass-covered mound (diam. 30m; H 0.6-0.8m) separated by a berm (Wth 5-6.5m) from a slight outer bank (Wth c. 5m; H 0.1m) N-SE. Description
On the broad summit of Mewlaghadooey Hill, on the line of the perimeter of hillfort (RO027-014001-) at E. Circular grass-covered area (int. diam. 9.3m E-W; 8.7m N-S) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth c. 5-6m; int. H 0.1-0.2m; ext. H 0.3-0.4m). There is no visible entrance. Description
On a SE-facing slope of Mewlaghadooey Hill. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 43m NW-SE; 41m NE-SW) defined by a slight earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.2m) N-E-SE which is preserved under a NE-SW field bank (Wth 6.6m; int. H 0.4m; ext. H 1.3m) SE-S but the perimeter is reduced to a scarp (H 0.2m) elsewhere. The fosse is well-preserved (Wth of top 6.5m; Wth of base 1.5m; ext. D 0.3m) SE-S and traceable (Wth of top 4-4.5m; D 0.1-0.2m) elsewhere. Description
On the crest of a slight NW-SE ridge. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 54m E-W; 52.5m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 4.3-5.7m; int. H 0.1m generally to 0.7m at E; ext. H 0.5m generally to 1.2m ENE-SE) and outer fosse (Wth of top 7.2-10.2m; Wth of base 3.7-5m; D 0.2m generally to 0.7m ENE-SE). There is a house site (RO027-017003-) (ext. dims 13.4m NW-SE; 5.8m NE-SW) defined by a stone spread just N of the centre where there is a subrectangular cairn (RO027-017008-) (dims 4.2m N-S; 2m E-W; H 0.3m) with a small standing stone (RO027-017005-) (dims 0.7m E-W; 0.3m N-S; H 0.7m) just to its E. There is a second house site (RO027-017008-) (dims 12m WNW-ESE; 5.7m NNE-SSW) defined by wall-footings on all sides except the S inside the perimeter of the rath at S. There is no identifiable original entrance, but a quarry has damaged the perimeter at NE. Building (RO027-017002-) is immediately outside the fosse at SW. Description
On the crest of a slight NW-SE ridge. Rectangular structure (ext. dims 19.5m plus E-W; 7.8m N-S) defined by the grass-covered base of the E and S walls (Wth 0.8-0.9m; H 0.6-0.8m) and the E end of the N wall (L 10.8m). A fragment of a square hood-moulding from a window (RO027-017006-) is at the site, and rath (RO027-017001-) is immediately to the NE. Description
On a slight rise (dims c. 40m N-S; c. 20m E-W; H 1.5m at S) towards the SE end of a NW-SE ridge. This is an L-shaped underground passage with an modern opening at the angle from which a drystone-built passage (dims 6.6m WNW-ESE; 1.2m NNE-SSW; max. H 1.2m) runs E to where it was blocked. An inaccessible part of the passage ran SSW (dims c. 2m NNE-SSW; c. 1.5m WNW-ESE) to an undifferentiated terminal. It is now closed. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
