• RO011-031 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On top of a drumlin. Oval grass-covered area which remains unplanted in a coniferous forest (dims 35m N-S; 28.5m E-W) defined by a gapped and overgrown earthen bank (Wth 3.6-3.9m; int. H 0.3-0.6m; ext. H 0.85m at W to 1.45m at N) N-E-W and a scarp (H 0.4m) elsewhere, with an outer fosse (Wth of base 2-3m; D 0.25-0.4m) SW-N-SE and an outer earthen bank (Wth 3.4; int. H 1-1.1m; ext. • RO011-032 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a D-shaped enclosure (dims c. 25m NE-SW; c. 20m NW-SE), and situated towards the bottom of the SW-facing slope of a drumlin. Described as a semicircular bank with slight traces of an outer fosse truncated by a NW-SE field bank at NW and NE-SW field bank at SE (Gannon 1972), it is not visible at ground level in a coniferous forest.   Description

  Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a mound, and situated on flat bogland. It was probably a 19th century boundary marker erected by the Ordinance Survey, marking the junction of four townlands. It is not visible at ground level.
