• RO028-159 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  At the N-facing crest of a broad, low hill. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 40.3m E-W; 35.9m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 5m; int. H 0.2m; 1.4m) W-NNW, which is removed elsewhere, and a rounded fosse (Wth of top 5.3m at S to 9m at W; Wth of base 2.5-3.3m; D 0.7-1.4m). There is an outer bank (ext. H 0.3m) W-NNW, which is incorporated into a field bank ENE-S-W, and there is a causeway (Wth 3.5m) at SE. Rath (RO028-160001-) is c. 190m to the SSE. See the attached aerial view taken from the N. • RO028-160001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On the gentle SE-facing slope of a broad, low hill. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 49.1m E-W; 46.6m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.3-4.6m; int. H 0.15-0.4m; ext. H 0.8-1.2m) and a flat-bottomed fosse (Wth of top 6.7-8.5m; Wth of base 3.2m; D 0.2-0.3m), which has been re-cut (Wth of base 4m; D 0.8-1m) with an outer field bank NNW-E-SSW. There are gaps in the bank at NNW (Wth 2m), NNE (Wth 6m), SE (Wth 4m) and W (Wth 12m). Rath (RO028-159----) is c. 190m to the NNW. See the attached aerial view taken from the SW. • RO028-264 Settlement cluster
  Description

  Situated towards the bottom of a gentle W-facing slope. The earthworks of a street (L c. 170m NNE-SSW; Wth c. 10-15m) are clearly visible on Google Earth (01/03/2010) and were first reported by Rob O’Hara. About six house plots (dims c. 20-40m x c. 20-25m) can be seen on each side of the street. Behind the house plots larger fields (dims c. 100m E-W; c. 50m N-S). SE of the street is a triangular field with cultivation ridges but the house plots are free of these features. The fields extend east to a NNE-SSW public road and beyond it covering about 14 ha (c. 35 acres), although E of the road much of the area is reclaimed. On the W side of the relict street the ground slips into lower boggy ground where no field banks can be seen. On inspection only one house platform could be recognised on the E side of the street as a stony platform (dims 7.5m N-S; c. 3m E-W) defined by scarps at W and N but melding into the ground level on the other sides.
