• RO008C005001 Ringfort - cashel
  Description

  On a steep S-facing slope at the W end of an E-W spur. Subcircular grass-covered area (int. dims 62m N-S; 57m E-W) defined by a rebuilt drystone wall (Wth 2.1-3m; int. H 1.6-1.9m; ext. H 0.9-2m). Some of the outer facing-stones are visible at SE and SSW, and inner facing-stones are visible at SW and NW. There are five modern entrances and the site is bisected by a NE-SW field wall. The possible children's burial ground (RO008C005002-) is in inside the perimeter at SW. See the attached aerial image taken from the NW with the children's burial ground under the bush.   Description

  Inside the perimeter of cashel (RO008C005001) at SW. Grass-covered cairn (dims 3m E-W; 2m N-S; max. H 1m) with a single whitethorn bush and some diplaced stones (dims 0.5m x 0.3m; T 0.15m) which may have been grave-markers, but there is no local information that it was used as a childrens burial ground. • RO008C008 Children's burial ground
  Description

  On the crest of a NW-SE ridge. Rectangular grass-covered area (dims 18.5m N-S; 12.5m E-W) defined by drystone walls with a stile to the remnant of a disused N-S track at E. It contains eight N-S rows of large grave-markers (dims c. 0.4m x 0.1m; H 0.6m) at the head and smaller stones (dims c. 0.3m x 0.1m; H 0.35m) at the feet of individual graves.   Description

  Marked only on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as a circular feature (diam. c . 10m), and situated on the crest of a NW-SE ridge. This is a trapezoidal grass-covered earth and stone mound (dims 13.5m E-W; 5.5m N-S at W to 9.5m N-S at E; H 0.3m at E to 1.1m at W) with quarries on the perimeter.   Description

  On the crest of a NW-SE ridge. Rectangular grass-covered platform (dims 16m E-W; 14.4m N-S) defined by scarps (H 0.3m at E to 1m at W), which has probably been cut back.   Description

  Marked only on the 1915 ed. of the OS 6-inch map where it is described as a cave, it is situated at the crest of the S-facing slope of a NW-SE ridge and at the SW edge of rath (RO008C010001-). A NE-SW lintelled passage (L 4.8m; Wth 2.3m; H 1.4m) entered at the SW end is flooded (D 0.4m) and regarded locally as a holy well (RO008C010003-), but there is no evidence of veneration.
