• LF010-083 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In level pasture adjacent to a modern football ground. A report in 1975 (SMR file) indicates that this raised circular area (diam. 29m) was enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone and an external fosse. It is defined by a scarp (H 0.5-1.35m). • LF010-088 Barrow - ring-barrow
  Description

  A short distance to the SE of the highest point of a prominent, NW-SE drumlin ridge in pasture. Depicted as a circular enclosure with the designation 'Fort' on the 1837 and 1883 eds. of the OS 6-inch map. A low circular mound of earth and stone (diam. 10.8m at base; H 0.4m) encircled by a shallow fosse (Wth 2.9-5.4m; D 0.3-0.45m). From SE-SSE the outer portion of the fosse is occupied by a modern NW-SE field boundary. There is a circular depression (diam. 5.1m; D 0.2m), of unknown significance, on top of the mound.   Description

  In a prominent position on the W slope of a low hill, in a green area within a housing estate. A low, subrectangular limestone upright (H 1.02m; Wth 0.38m; T 0.26m).   Description

  On level, waterlogged ground at the base of an E-facing slope. A raised circular area (diam. 30m) enclosed by a partially denuded bank of earth and stone (Wth 4-4.6m; H 0.45-0.75m) with an intervening fosse (Wth 4-5m; D 0.1-0.3m), which are identifiable from N-NNE-NE, from SE-S-SW and from W-WNW-NW, and an outer bank (Wth c. 4m; H 0.6m) visible at SE and S. A break (Wth 3.1m) in the bank at ENE probably marks the original entrance. Adjoining the rath at SE is an enclosure (LF011-026002-); the latter may be an annexe or later feature.   Description

  Adjacent to the SE quadrant of a rath (LF011-026001-) is a rectangular enclosure/annexe (24m NE–SW; 18.5m NW–SE) defined on its NE side by a scarp (H 0.7m) and on its SE and SW sides by a low bank of earth and stone (Wth 3-4.3m; H 0.5-0.55m) with an external fosse (Wth 3.8-4.4m; D 0.5m). A depression in the N end of the scarp may mark the original entrance (Wth. 1.4m). The relationship between the rath and the enclosure is unclear; the latter may be an annexe or later feature.
