- RO035-003001 Ringfort - rath
Description
On a gentle NW-facing slope. D-shaped overgrown area (dims 26.8m N-S; c. 20m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank (at N: Wth 7.6m; int. H 0.5-1m; ext. H 1m generally to 1.7m at N) which survives NNW-E-SSW, the perimeter being quarried back elsewhere. The rounded fosse (Wth of top 7.6m; Wth of base 2.4m; D 0.5m) survives NNW-N, but NNE-ENE it is re-cut and ESE-SE it is separated from the bank by a berm (Wth 4m). The monument was regarded locally as a children's burial ground (RO034-003003-), and uncremated bone (RO035-003002-) was recovered from it (Gannon 1972). Description
On a gentle NE-facing slope. An area of about 4 acres (c. 1.5 ha) contains a rectangular field (dims 38.7m NW-SE; 33.8m NE-SW) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2-3.3m; int. H 0.1-0.2m; ext. H 0.4-0.6m) with a second field (dims c. 75m NE-SW; 35m NW-SE) to the SW and what may have been a SW-NE roadway (Wth 10m; L 110m) defined by earthen banks (Wth 3m; H 0.1-0.2m) on its SE side. Description
Detached seven-bay two-storey former Franciscan monastery, built c.1857, with projecting gabled end bays to front and rear elevations and crenellated three-stage tower to rear elevation. Vacated by the order of Franciscan monks c.1971 and now in use as a private dwelling. Pitched slate roof with rendered chimneystacks. Rendered walls with rendered quoins and date plaque and emblem of the order to front elevation. Niches to projecting gabled bays. Square-headed window openings with tooled stone sills and replacement timber casement windows. Square-headed door opening with timber panelled door and overlight. Former chapel in monastery located in south-west projecting end bay. Rendered entrance porch and decorative rose window to rear elevation wall. Outbuildings to rear yard now in use as artists studio. Shrine to the Virgin Mary at entrance gates.

Description
Detached three-bay single-storey former school, built c.1857, with gabled entrance porches projecting from rear angles. Now in use as a private dwelling. Pitched slate roof gabled to front elevation entrance bay and extending over front elevation windows with ridge cresting, rendered chimneystacks and a copper turret. Rendered walls with ruled-and-lined detailing and quoins. Square-headed window openings to the front elevation with rendered surrounds and replacement uPVC windows. Door opening to front elevation now in use as a window opening. Front site enclosed by rendered stone wall with concrete coping. Cast-iron post box set in wall with V.R. insignia and crown emblem, c.1880.
