Description
Visible on aerial photographs (GSIAP: M 472-3) as a linear fosse (Wth c. 10m; L c. 700m) on the S side of a WNW-ESE earthen bank and townland boundary with Carrowntleive, which is also the boundary between the parishes of Tisara to the N and Taghboy to the S. Situated on a low-lying, gently undulating landscape. An earthen bank (Wth 3.5-4m; H 1.3-2.2m) and hedge survives, but there is no evidence of a fosse, although it was known locally. Description
On a gentle SW-facing slope overlooking Lough Croan, the N shore of which is c. 100m distant. Circular grass-covered platform (diam. 35.7m N-S; 35.4m E-W) defined by a grass-covered earth and stone bank (Wth 3.5-5.8m; int. H 0.4-0.5m; ext. H 1.5-2.2m) SW-W-NE, which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.8m) elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance. Rath (RO044-067----) is c. 100m to the NE. Description
Marked as a circular feature (diam. c. 40m) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and as a hachured D-shaped feature on the 1915 ed. Situated at the edge of a low shelf on a SW-facing slope overlooking Lough Croan, the N shore of which is c. 230m distant. This is a raised D-shaped grass-covered and poached area (dims 33m E-W; 13.7m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2m; int. H 0.35m; ext. H 1m) at SW and a scarp (H 0.4-0.75m) SE-SW. It is truncated by an E-W field wall at N but the perimeter is respected by a curved field wall N-E (dim. 31m N-S). Rath (RO044-066----) is c. 100m to the SW.
