Description
On a gentle NE-facing slope on the W side of the NW-SE River Suck which is c. 40m to the NE. D-shaped grass and rush-covered area (int. dims 13.4m NNE-SSW; 11m WNW-ESE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 1.7-1.9m; int. H 0.1-0.4m; ext. H 0.5-0.6m) and rush-covered fosse (Wth of base 1.2m; D 0.2m) SSW-W-NNE. It is cut by a NNE-SSW field bank at E, and does not survive E of this feature. Children's burial ground (RO034-105----) is c. 210m to the SE, and earthwork (RO027-085----) is c. 120m to the E on the other side of the river. Description
Visible on aerial photographs (GSIAP: M 63-4), and situated on low-lying ground on the W bank of the N-S River Suck which loops sharply to the E around the monument. Grass-covered D-shaped area with some bushes (dims 50m N-S; 32.5m E-W) defined by the river on all sides except the W where there is an earthen bank (at N: Wth 4.2m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.55m; at S: Wth 9m; int. H 0.55m; ext. H 1.75m) and a rounded fosse (Wth of top 8.6-11.2m; Wth of base 2.8-3.2m; D 0.6m). There is no identifiable original entrance and spoil from river drainage has been deposited on the river bank at N, while ther river is eroding the perimeter at E. Description
On a SE-facing slope of a NW-SE section of River Suck valley with the river c. 60m to the NE. This is an oval grass-covered mound (dims 9m NW-SE; 4m NE-SW; max. H 0.6m) which is truncated at NW by a field wall. There are no visible grave-markers, but it is known locally as a children's burial ground. Enclosure (RO027-084----) is c. 210m to the NW, and earthwork (RO027-085----) is c. 130m to the NNW, on the other side of the river. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of upload: 24 August 2010
