  Description

  Identified as a centre of the Mac Dermot kings of Moylurg with references from the mid to late 14th century (O'Conor 1998b). Situated on the summit of Inishatirra Island (diam. c. 340-390m) at a narrow point in Lough Eidin where the E and S shores are c. 180m and 100m distant from the shores of the island. This is a rectangular grass-covered area (dims 30m E-W; 29m N-S) defined by flat-bottomed moats (Wth of top 4.8-5.3m; Wth of base 3.2-3.5m; int. D 1-1.3m; ext. D 0.6-0.9m) surrounded by overgrown earthen field banks. A rectangular enclosure or annexe (RO007-084003-) (dims 26m NW-SE; 22m NE-SW) defined by scarps (H 0.3m) and fosses (Wth of base 1.3-2.6m; ext. D 0.1m) at SW and NW is attached to the moat at SW and has a bank (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.6m), fosse (Wth of base 1m; ext. D 0.8m), and outer field bank at SE. • RO007-084002 Enclosure - large enclosure
  Description

  On the NE-facing slope of Inishatirra Island (diam. c. 340-390m) in Lough Eidin. Oval grass-covered area (dims 80m NNE-SSW; 53m WNW-ESE) defined by a scarp (H 0.6-1.2m) W-N-SE and a field bank SE-S. There are traces of a fosse (Wth of base 3-3.6m; ext. D 0.3-0.6m) at W and E-SE, while a house-site (RO007-084004-) (dims 7m E-W; 5m N-S) is visible as a platform (H 0.1-0.3m) inside the perimeter at SE. Moated site (RO007-084001-) is attached at SW. • RO007-084003 Enclosure
  Description

  Situated on the summit of Inishatirra Island (diam. c. 340-390m) in Lough Eidin. A rectangular enclosure or annexe (dims 26m NW-SE; 22m NE-SW) defined by scarps (H 0.3m) and fosses (Wth of base 1.3-2.6m; ext. D 0.1m) at SW and NW is attached to the moated site (RO007-084001-), which is just to the NE. The enclosure has a bank (Wth 2.7m; int. H 0.2m; ext. H 0.6m), fosse (Wth of base 1m; ext. • RO007-104 Enclosure
  Description

  Located in meadow grass towards the bottom of a SW-facing slope of Inshatirra Island. It was first identified by Susan Curran as part of an M.A. thesis with University College Dublin using a LiDAR survey dataset commissioned by Leitrim County Council and the National Roads Authority. This is an oval grass-covered area (dims c. 60m NE-SW; c. 50m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank (L c. 30m; Wth 3.85m; int. H 0.15m; ext. H 0.3m) at SE, almost parallel with a NE-SW field bank c. 10m to the SE. There is a section of bank (L 10m; Wth 3m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.2m) at SW and another (L c. 10m; Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.25m; ext. H 0.25m) at NE, but the perimeter is not readily traceable SW-W-NE, although clearly visible on the LiDAR image. The enclosure may be a relict field.
