- LF020-031 Ringfort - rath
Description
At the SE end of a low NW-SE ridge in pasture. A raised oval area (c. 35m N-S; c. 31m E-W) enclosed by a partially denuded, low bank of earth and stone (Wth 3m; H 0.2-0.3m). A narrow, deep, external fosse (Wth 1.2m; D 1m), which has been modified and incorporated into the field-drainage system, survives from W-NW-N. The original entrance is not recognisable. Description
In wet, low-lying pasture. A report in 1976 (SMR file) indicates that this raised subcircular area (c. 26m N-S; c. 23m E-W) was enclosed by a low bank of earth and stone and an external fosse. It is defined by a scarp (H 1-1.2m). From NNE-E-SE, a NW-SE field boundary has been built on the line of the fosse. The original entrance is not recognisable. Compiled by: Patrick F. On a low rise in pasture. A raised circular area (diam. c. 43m) defined from SSE-S-N by a scarp (H 0.2-1.25m). Elsewhere the enclosing element and most of the interior have been levelled.
