In certain instances the entries have been revised and updated in the light of recent research. Date of upload/revision: 22 July 2011 Head of pierced wheeled granite cross with portion of shaft above ground stands on rise in rectangular graveyard. - CW007-087 Enclosure
Description
Sub-oval enclosure visible on aerial photographs (ASIAP (13) 0-2). Compiled by: Claire Breen Date of upload: 10 January 2012
- CW007-175 Enclosure - large enclosure
Description
On the NW edge of a marsh, c. 600m S of the Burren River. A large roughly circular enclosure (dims. c. 93m) identified as a cropmark on Google Earth Pro imagery (imagery date 14 July 2018) by Jean-Charles Caillère. The cropmark, indicating a fosse, is not visible in the S-SE sector where it may have run up to and incorporated the edge of the march. There are two parallel cropmarks (Wth apart c. 5m) running E-W just N of the centre of the enclosure. There is also the suggestion of a roughly circular, possibly bivallate enclosure in the SW quadrant, partially utilising the fosse of the larger enclosure. See attached image: CW007-175----_01Google Earth Pro imagery Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 4 September 2019
- CW007-186 Settlement cluster
Description
On a low prominent N-S ridge. A complex of possible house sites, small haggards and larger fields visible as cropmarks on satellite imagery (OS Ireland: Map Genie Imagery, 2013-2018) identified and reported by Jean-Charles Caillère. This settlement occupies a raised area, which appears to largely equate with a roughly curvilinear enclosure (dims. c. 250m N-S; c. 240m E-W) on the 1st ed. OS 6-inch map. ‘Quinagh Grave Yard’ (CW007-035001-) is indicated immediately S of the SW portion of the enclosure, however, on the cropmarks extend c. 60m W and c. 170m S of the burial ground. There is no surviving evidence of a church associated with the burial ground, however, its position in relation to the settlement cropmarks would suggest that there was a church there to serve the associated community. See attached photograph: CW007-186----_01 Satellite image (OS Ireland: Map Genie Imagery, 2013-2018) CW007-186----_02 Satellite image (Google Earth, 28 March 2019) Compiled by: Jean Farrelly Date of upload: 13 July 2022
