- KK012-060 Enclosure
Description
On a steep slope N-facing slope on the S side of valley, a little above the slight terrace occupied by a medieval church (KK012-059001-) and graveyard (KK012-059002-), in reclaimed grassland. There are very good views across and along valley to the N, E and W. A sub-rectangular area (dims. 24m E-W; 23m N-S) enclosed by a low stoney bank (Wth c. 1m; int. H c. 0.15m at N, c. 0.5m at S; ext. H c. 0.5m at N, almost level at S) with rounded corners. The interior is divided in two by a low scarp (H 0.56m) running E-W. The monument is overgrown with scrub and thorn bushes. Description
On a N-facing slope on the upper, fairly gently sloping, S side of a valley, in reclaimed grassland. There are good views across and along the valley to the N, E and W. Indicated on the 1st (1839) ed. OS 6-inch map and on the 1900 revision as a square enclosure (dims. c. 30m NE-SW and NW-SE) with rounded corners, similar to a nearby enclosure (KK012-060----) c. 130m to the N. The enclosure has been levelled and is not visible at ground level, however, it is visible as a cropmark on DigitalGlobe satellite imagery (viewed 15 June 2019). Description
On flat ground in rolling terrain, under grass. Indentified as a circular cropmark (diam. c. 40m) on an aerial photograph (CUCAP BDL037, 15 July 1970). Though not visible at ground level, it is visible as a cropmark on satellite imagery (OS Ortho, viewed 15 July 170). Description
On the N-facing slope of a small flat-topped bluff with very steep sides to the N, in a small thorny wood surrounded by tillage and grassland. A circular platform (dims. c. 30m) cut into hill-slope (H c. 1m) on the N side and defined by scarp to N (ext. H 0.5m), with a berm (Wth 4m) at the base, before dropping steeply with the natural slope. Monument poorly preserved and heavily overgrown with trees and scrub.
