- MA111-050 Ringfort - rath
Description
In a coniferous plantation, straddles a low rise in an area of gently undulating limestone terrain. Ground level dips gradually for c. 50m to S then rises in an E–W series of limestone terraces. Roughly circular, slightly raised area (34m N–S) defined by an earth and stone bank (Wth 4.6m at NW, c. 3m at S; int. H 0.8m at NW, 0.6m at S; ext. H 1.7m at NW, 1.8m at S). The bank has low internal lip and a high, broad external slump. A loose scattering of small stones covers the narrow, rounded top. At S, an E−W property wall overlies the top of the bank. The interior appears to be fairly level but is largely obscured by long grass and nettles. There is a small depression (diam. c. 2-3m) without clearly defined edges in the S half. The entrance may have been at SE where the bank appears lower and less substantial, but is now partly obscured by the E−W field wall. The enclosing bank is densely ringed by hawthorn bushes and brambles; the interior is choked with overgrowth. According to local information, the rath is known as 'Lisnamaoila' and was used as a children’s burial ground (MA111-050001-). Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 21 December 2022

Description
Located in a rath (MA111-050----). According to local information, the rath was used for the burial of unbaptized babies. The rath interior is engulfed in overgrowth; no gravemarkers were evident. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 21 December 2022
- MA111-051 Enclosure
Description
In improved pasture, located on a low level elevation in an expanse of lowlying terrain, with good views. A circular embanked enclosure (diam. c. 30m) is shown on the 1838 OS 6-inch map; it is not shown on later maps editions. A slight circular surface undulation/cropmark (diam. approx. 35-40m) is evident at ground level. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 21 December 2022
- MA111-097 Fulacht fia
Description
In pasture, located in a patch of lowlying, wet rush-grown ground, bordered to SE–S by slightly higher, drier ground. At time of visit there was a small pool of standing water, possibly recently dug out, immediately adjacent at N. A prominent, roughly kidney-shaped mound (15.5m NNE–SSW; 13m WNW–ESE; H 0.85 at NNE, 0.4m at SSW) with a distinct central depression (c. 2.5m N–S; 3.5m E–W) possibly indicating the location of a trough. The mound is lowest on the W side, with pronounced ‘arms’ wrapping around the central hollow at N and S. Two smaller surface depressions are also evident: one consisting of a circular area (2m E–W; c. 1m N–S) dug out (probably recent) of the NNW edge of the mound, and the other consisting of a shallow dip (max. dim. c 1.5-2m) on the S side of the mound. Heat-shattered sandstone fragments in charcoal-rich soil could be seen where sections of the mound had been eroded by farm stock. A burnt mound (MA111-098----) is located c. 30m to SW. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 9 March 2023
- MA111-098 Burnt mound
Description
In wet, rush-grown pasture, located adjacent to a well on the 1930 OS 6-inch map. This partly levelled mound is evident as a low, elongated sod-covered rise (NE–SW; 7-10m NW–SE; c. 15-18m NE–SW), slightly kidney-shaped in plan. The mound has an uneven, irregular surface and is distinguished by a growth of short green grass with field rushes encircling the perimeter. The S edge of the mound has been slightly truncated by a watering hole (diam. c. 6m) encircled by a ring of upcast, dug for farm stock. A fulacht fia (MA111-097----) is located c. 30m to NE.
