• MA070-209 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  In pasture, located at the N end of a low ridge in gently undulating terrain. A substantially raised circular area (c. 32m N–S; c. 31m E–W) defined by a partly eroded scarp (H 4.5m). A ramp-like feature, partly defined by stones, located in the slope of the rath platform at the NE, may be the original entrance. In the interior at the WSW there is a large irregular-shaped hollow that represents a collapsed souterrain (MA070-209001-). Cultivation ridges (Wth c. 3m) traverse the interior surface on a NE–SW axis, but are not evident in the area of the souterrain. Compiled by: Jane O'Shaughnessy Date of upload: 26 October 2012

  Description

  Located in the W half of a rath (MA070-209----). The souterrain appears as an irregular, grass-covered surface hollow (max. dim. c. 15m N-S; c. 10m E-W) on the WSW side of the rath. A portion of drystone walling and a broken roof lintel are exposed. According to local information, the souterrain contains three chambers.   Description

  In the NE corner of a large field, located in marshy ground at the base of a steep E-facing slope, 13.5m W of a stream. A horseshoe-shaped mound (5.5m E–W; 7.8m N–S; max. H 0.3m high), composed of heat-fractured stones, with the arms of the mound enclosing a central depression open to the E. The mound is grass-covered but is surrounded by rushes, which also grow in the central hollow. Four fulacht fia (MA070-211001-; MA070-211002-; MA070-211003-; MA070-211004-) are located in the adjacent field to N along the W bank of the same stream, the closest of which (MA070-211004-) is c. 40m to N.
