Description
On a low-lying, level landscape c. 1.5 km NW from the River Shannon. Subcircularl grass-covered area (dims 48m N-S; 42m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (at W: Wth 3.2m; int. H 0.8m; ext. H 1.6m) incorporated into a field bank and hedge with an outer drain (Wth of base 1m; D 0.4m) SW-N, but the bank is reduced to a low scarp (at E: H 0.3m) elsewhere. Description
Marked as a circular enclosure (diam. c. 35m) truncated slightly by a NE-SW field bank at NW on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a gentle SW-facing slope overlooking the junction of the Feorish stream with the River Shannon c. 350m to the SW. Description
Marked as a subrectangular field (dims c. 50m N-S; c. 25-35m E-W) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, and situated on a level landscape c. 450m from the River Shannon to the SW. Described as an overgrown circular area (diam. 47m N-S; 46m E-W) defined by an earth and stone bank with a slight fosse (Gannon 1972). Marked as a rectangular feature (dims c. 40m NE-SW; c. 30m NW-SE) on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map, but known locally as a fort. Situated on a gentle SE-facing slope, c. 300m from the River Shannon to the S, and described as an arc of an overgrown earthen bank (Gannon 1972). It is not visible at ground level in pasture.
