• RO011-054 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Marked only on the 1914 ed. of the OS 6-inch map as an arc of hachures (C c. 50m) N-E-S. On a gentle SW-facing slope with a SE-NW section of the River Shannon, c. 150m to the SW. An earthen bank (Wth 5-6m; int. 0.3-0.7m; ext. H 1.2m) survives NE-SE in a coniferous forest (C c. 30m). There is no visible evidence of a fosse or of the continuation of the perimeter. • RO011-056 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a slight NE-facing slope. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 27m N-S) defined by an eroded earthen bank with some scrub (Wth 3m at N to 4.7m at S; int. H 0.2-0.6m; ext. H 0.8-1.2m) N-S-WSW, with an outer fosse (Wth of top 3.2m; D 0.2-0.4m) SE-S represented by a band of rushes (Wth 3m) N-E but expanded into a pond S-WSW. There is no visible entrance, and the perimeter is truncated by the scarp of a removed NE-SW field bank at NW. Earthwork (RO011-057----) and ring-ditch (RO011-057001-) are c. 60m to the SSE, but archaeological testing (06E1187) c. 50m to the E failed to produce any related material (Read 2009b). • RO011-153001 Enclosure
  Description

  Situated on a fairly level landscape. A geophysical survey (19R0147) disproved the presence of an archaeological enclosure (RO011-153----) but identified a possible rectangular enclosure (dims c. 30m N-S; c. 25m plus) in the SE corner of the field (Leigh 2019). This is defined by a ditch feature at W and a low bank at N that might be part of an unmapped field system and could extend into neighbouring fields.
