  Description

  The site (L 1.07m; Wth 0.56m; D 0.07m) is orientated NNE-SSW and consists of a single compact layer of brushwood (diam. 0.005-0.05m) with a number of twigs in the vicinity. Birch was the species identified. Several toolmarks, predominantly chisel points, were evident. The wood was in fresh condition with its bark intact.   Description

  This site (L 0.7m; Wth 0.64m; D 0.12m) is orientated NNE-SSW and consists of a dense concentration of light brushwood (diam. 0.012-0.03m), three-four layers deep. A single peg, at an angle of 45°, was located at the centre of the construction. Identified species include oak, hazel, birch and yew. The wood is in good condition with bark surviving. Several toolmarks were recorded, including chisel points, one of which was finished as a cut and tear. The section of togher (RO055-019----) c. 15m to the N may be part of the same structure.   Description

  The site (L 0.7m; Wth 0.69m; D 0.12m) is orientated NNW-SSE and consists of an irregular arrangement of brushwood (diam. 0.0.13-0.03m) in at least seven compact layers. Two pegs occur on the eastern side of the site and a third is set 0.3m beyond the western side of the structure. The pegs (L 0.17-0.55m) lie at angles of 30-80°.   The site (L 0.3m; Wth 0.46m; D 0.21m) is orientated NE-SW and consists of irregular arrangements of brushwood (diam. 0.006-0.048m). The arrangement of the wood was dispersed and irregular, with several longitudinal, oblique and vertical timbers present. Oak, hazel and alder were recorded.   A single vertically set ash roundwood (L 0.49m; diam. 0.07m) located at the base of a drain. The top was machine damaged while the lower end was in poor condition but had been cleanly broken.   Description

  This site (L c. 0.7m; Wth 0.7m; D 0.24m) is orientated NNE-SSW and consists of dispersed brushwood (av. diam. 0.025m), occasional small roundwoods (av. diam. 0.06m) and bundles of twigs (av. diam. 0.003m). Most elements are laid longitudinally, although several transverses are also present. Birch and oak were the species identified. Two chisel points were recorded.   Description

  The site is orientated NNW-SSE and consists of a narrow compact arrangement of brushwood (L c. 1m; Wth c. 0.3m) with several short obliquely-laid pieces at both edges of the structure. A number of twigs (diam. 0.016-0.038m) were visible. Two oak pegs (L 0.24-0.46m) were noted at the drain face approx. 0.4m from the body of the togher. The lower ends were worked into chisel points.   Description

  The site (L 0.7m; Wth 0.5m; D 0.06m) is orientated NE-SW and consists of brushwood (diam. 0.01-0.03m) two layers deep and up to eleven pieces wide. The dominant species are oak with some hazel. Two chisel-pointed pegs (L 0.25-0.4m), at angles of 40° and 80°, are present 0.2m beyond the western extent of the structure. The wood is hard and fresh in condition.   Description

  Part of the trunk (L 0.755m; diam. 0.23m) of a yew tree found 0.13m below the surface of the bog at a drain face. It ran into the bog at an incline so that the lower end of the object lay 0.28m below the bog surface and the piece narrowed as it inclined into the peat. It was underlain by a thin lens of yellow silt (Wth 0.7m; D 0.02m) with a very thin intervening layer of sphagnum. The silt layer extended beyond the trunk in all directions. Both ends of the object had been trimmed to very shallow points. The upper surface was more intensively worked. All bark had been removed. In conversion, this object was an irregular roundwood, evidenced by the centre of the parent tree which lies closeby. Its function remains unknown.   Description

  The site (L c. 0.7m; Wth 0.56m; D 0.25m) is orientated N-S and consists of an irregular arrangement of brushwood (diam. 0.01-0.05m) generally laid longitudinally but with several obliquely-laid examples. The structure is fourteen pieces of brushwood wide and three-four layers deep. Hazel and birch were identified. Three pegs were recorded, one of which supported the eastern side of the structure.   Description

  The site (Wth 1.7m; D 0.2m) is orientated NNE-SSW and consists of a very compact arrangement of brushwood (diam. 0.022-0.06m) from one layer deep on the western side to five layers deep on the east, seen in section. The eastern side of the site was constructed of several longitudinal pieces, underlain by a bundle of obliquely laid brushwood. Species recorded included birch and hazel.
