• RO013-005001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  On a shelf on the NW-facing slope of a NW-SE ridge. Originally a circular grass-covered area (diam. 34.3m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.4-4m; int. H 0.3-0.5m; ext. H 0.9-1.3m) which only survives N-E and as an arc (L 5m) at S. The perimeter has been quarried back elsewhere (dim. 26.4m E-W) and there is no visible fosse or entrance, but an arc of bank (L 9m; Wth 2.6m; int. H 0.5m; ext. H 0.5m) outside the perimeter at NW may be an original outer bank. There is no evidence of the 'cave' marked on the 1837 ed. of the OS 6-inch map inside the perimeter at W, which may be a souterrain (RO013-005002-).   Description

  Marked on the 1837 ed. of OS 6-inch map inside the perimeter of rath (RO013-005001-) at W, and described as a 'Cave'. • RO013-006 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  Towards the NW end of the crest of a NW-SE ridge. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 59m NE-SW; 58m NW-SE) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 3.6-3.8m; int. H 0.3-0.4m; ext. H 0.6-0.7m) which is reduced to a scarp (H 0.6m) NW-NE and which is impinged on by farm buildings NE-SE. There is no visible fosse or entrance, but the perimeter is surrounded by a field bank and hedge SW-NNE, c. 5-10m distant. Compiled by: Michael Moore Date of revised upload: 1 May 2018

• RO014-023001 Ringfort - rath
  Description

  At the crest of a NW-SE ridge. Subcircular grass-covered area (dims 26.4m N-S; 23.4m E-W) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.5-3.1m; int. H 0.1-0.5m; ext. H 1-1.3m) incorporated into a field bank and hedge ESE-S-WNW, and a scarp (H 0.6-1.4m) elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or entrance. The entrance to souterrain (RO014-023002-) is at the centre, and a grass-covered circular penitential cairn (RO014-023003-) (diam. 12m E-W; 10.75m N-S; max. H 1.3m) with a trig. station on its summit is immediately E of its entrance. An extended burial (RO014-023004-) with the head at W was found inside the perimeter at N in 1962 (NMI file). • RO014-023002 Souterrain
  Description

  At the centre of rath (RO014-023001-). A lintelled passage (L 7m E-W; Wth 0.9m at E to 1.2 at W; H 1.2m), entered at the E end, has a creep (Wth 0.55m; H 0.8m; L 0.9m) towards the W end of the S wall leading to a lintelled chamber (dims 3.7m N-S; 1.6m E-W; H 1.2m at N to 1.7m at S) which is flooded and served as a holy well (RO014-023005-).   Description

  At the centre of rath (RO014-023001-), immediately E of the the entrance to souterrain (RO014-023002-) which is partly filled with stones from the cairn.
