• RO042-017001 Hilltop enclosure
  Description

  Visible as a feature on aerial photographs (GSIAP: M 153-4), and situated on top of Moydow Hill. Circular grass-covered area (diam. 68m E-W; c. 66m NW-SE) defined by a grass-covered stone spread (Wth 2-3.7m; H 0.2-0.4m) with some outer facing stones SW-ENE, which is reduced to a slight scarp ENE-SE and removed elsewhere. Cairn (RO042-017003-) is at the centre, and a NE-SW field wall of field system (RO042-017002-) overlies the interior SE of the cairn, but the perimeter can barely be traced in reclaimed grassland SE of this.   Description

  On top of Moydow Hill. An area of about 6.5 acres (c. 2.5 ha) contains straight sections of grass-covered stone spreads (Wth c. 3m; H 0.2-0.3m) forming walls (L c. 100-130m) which create parallel strips (Wth c. 30-50m) radiating generally from the top of the hill.   Description

  Description

  Towards the top of the SE-facing slope of Moydow Hill, in a field on the N side of an E-W road. A plain limestone shaft (dims 0.2m x 0.2m; H 0.63m) with traces of a chamfer at one angle and expanding slightly at one end which has a square socket (dims 0.08m x 0.07m; D 0.1m) is set upright in the ground.   Description

  Towards the top of a SE-facing slope of Moydow Hill. There is a local tradition of the site of a castle, but no feature is visible at ground level in pasture and its precise location is not known.   Description

  Towards the top of the E-facing slope of Moydow Hill. Circular grass-covered area (int. diam. 40.3m NW-SE; 39.2m NE-SW) defined by an earth and stone bank (at WSW: Wth 2.8m; int. H 0.6m; ext. H 0.4m) with outer facing-stones intermittently visible SSE-WNW, a drystone field wall built on the base of a wall with inner facing-stones (at NNW: Wth 1.7m) WNW-NNE, and a low scarp (H 0.2m) elsewhere. There is no visible fosse or identifiable original entrance, but there is a quarry at the centre and the interior is overlain by a NW-SE field wall and townland boundary, the ground to the E in Farbreagues being reclaimed pasture.
