• RO020-044 Road - road/trackway
  Description

  Traditionally a road ran N-S across a shallow basin between the church of Termonkeelin (RO020-043003-) at the N end and the church of Termon More (RO026-034----) at the S end (L c. 1 km). The basin is covered in peat (D c. 1.5m), most of which has been cut, but nothing is visible in the peat or in the pasture fields at either end, although a it was visible as a layer of brushwood and stones in a bog cutting (Timoney 1990, 16).   Description

  Indicated as included in a roadside wood to the N on the 1837 and 1929 eds of the OS 6-inch map, and situated just off the S-facing crest of an NW-SE ridge. Circular grass and scrub-covered area with some tree stumps (diam. 12.6m E-W; 11.2m N-S) defined by an earthen bank (Wth 2.6-3.3m; int. H 0.1-0.4m; ext. H 0.5-0.6m) and an outer fosse (Wth of base 1-1.6m; D 0.1m at S to 0.5m at N), which is truncated by a NE-SW field bank at SE. It might be a tree-ring. • RO026-034 Church
  Description

  On the crest towards the SE end of a low NW-SE ridge. St Caolainn traced her ancestry to the Ciarraighe of Kerry, a subject people in Connaught who had settled around Castlerea. She gouged out her eyes rather than be admired for them (Anon 1980; Ó Rian 2011, 151-2). This may be the location of St Caolainn’s church and it is connected to the convent at Moor (RO020-043003-) c. 1.2 km to the N by a road (RO020-044----). Only a fragment of the E gable (L 3.2m; T 0.95m; H 4.1m) with the N side of a simple light (H 0.5m) survives together with an adjacent piece of the grass-covered S wall (L 2.9m; H 0.5m).
